Leaking and vibrating tap!

My kitchen hot water tap has been leaking for a few months. And this morning when I came downstairs the hot water tap was vibrating! This soon stopped after the hot water was turned on for a few seconds. What is causing the problem?

It seems to vibrate when the boiler is switched on. Should I get a plumber in or someone who service the boiler?

no

worn out tap washer or cartridge.

DIY or plumber.

Do the cold one as well as it is presumably the same age and equally worn.

Hi pigletjohn,

Problem seems to be on and off, when turn on bathroom hot water tap, kitchen hot water tap vibrates. To stop the vibration, I have to turn on the kitchen tap for a few seconds.

Plumber in today and left within 5 mins, saying the kitchen tap is lose, he tightened it up and left. Could it be that simple?

He did say the leaky tap is due to worn cartridge but didn't change it because since we are moving, he said to leave it.

Probably because he would have had to fetch a new cartridge to fit. There are a few common sizes, but imported taps in particular may have an unusal fit.

He said cartridge has to be ordered. But what I am concerning about is the vibration coming from the kitchen water tap. Could it be simply like he said, that the kitchen tap is lose?

Not sure. I would have wanted to change both tap cartridges first, then if necessary tighten any loose fixings, and/or clamp the pipe.

A vibrating tap or pipe is annoying, but usually a trivial fault.

Thanks, pigletjohn, taps started to vibrate as soon as the plumber left. Called him back and he changed the bathroom sink washer. But vibrating and humming noise still persists. £40 down the drain and nothing is fixed!
