To knock down a wall or not

We have a large dining room which we don't use that much at the moment, we prefer to use the lounge and have a small table in there for that reason.
The dining room is basically becoming a room to store stuff in because we don't use it. We don't need it as a store room so have been thinking about knocking the wall down between the lounge and dining room. However, the dining room is narrower than the lounge by about a foot and is separated by a load bearing wall so we'd have to realistically go for double doors between the two rooms. There is also a difference in the floor level of about 6 inches or so.
Would you knock through and so have a lounge that is the full length of the house or keep them as separate rooms?
Which would you prefer if buying a house, we might decide to sell in the next 5 years.

Where's your kitchen? What would be the dimensions of knocked through living and dining room?

The kitchen is the other side of the house from the dining room - they are in opposite corners. The new room would be about 30 feet long and 11 feet wide but narrowing to just under 8 feet about half way along.

I think it might work if you moved the table back into the narrow bit. Is that what you were thinking?

Yes, the table would go in there - it's the front of the house so would be better.

We are having problems at the moment because we have done exactly what you are thinking of doing! We sold our house in aug and now our buyers solicitors are questioning the wall we took down which ironically is probably the reason we sold house! It was just a plasterboard wall but whole process has added about a month onto selling process!
