Curtain poles... for bay windows... how much?!

I have two bay windows in our new house that I need to sort curtains for before it gets cold... The bays are about 215cm wide and 60cm deep.
Looking on the John Lewis website, curtain poles with all the bits you need to fit them inc. curtain rings, would cost nearly 300 quid for each window! I didn't think I'd be seeing bargain prices at JL, but is this very expensive and/or is there a much cheaper way of doing this?!
Many thanks in advance for any advice!

I didn't think they were that much - depends on what style/type of curtain pole, I suppose.

I've just bought 3x 3m poles for various windows, and am about to buy poles for a bay (having just ordered the curtains - ouch!) a similar size to yours, and I had vaguely thought about half your figure - will have to do some creative accounting if they are twice what I had put by...

Thanks! I've just found some that are half price on the JL website, other than that all the styles seem to cost about the same. It seems to be the length combined to the need for bendy corner things that makes it add up to so much... will try shopping around a bit... yes, curtains double ouch. I like making them, but the cost of the fabric alone is eye watering!

yes, the bendy corner bits (technical term!) come to about £50 alone...

I was figuring 2x pole kits (they come with the rings and brackets then), and cut one pole to fit the sides, iyswim. I bought a 3m kit for around £50, iirc, so would only need to add a few passing rings too.

I did come up with a really fab site when I was looking a few weeks ago - loads of choice - but I needed the kits overnight, so went with JL and deliver to local Waitrose option. Might have a hunt for them again this time, though, as have a bit more time to get the poles in.

Try terrysfabrics.com, I'm sure I found something much cheaper on there...

JL are very expensive and only ok (we had them in our old house)
I've seen various other ones when I've been looking but can't vouch for any as I'm holding off buying them until the new windows get fitted.

we purchased from here www.qualitypoles.com/ but via ebay.

Fast delivery and love our bay window pole, we wanted a curved one so we could keep our existing ring top curtains and managed to find one here at a good price, think it was £80

What about a bespoke one much cheaper than you may think try iron poles or curtain poles I personally prefer one whole pole rather than lots of joins - looks much neater imo.

I had a corded one made to measure in chrome and sadly it cost about £500.

Oh God you've just brought back some bad memories from this time last year that I thought I had safely recessed to some far corner of my mind!

Bay window curtains and poles - who knew you could potentially spend so much.

Apparently silent gliss are the rolls royce if you're going for a track, but they are pricey. I am sure I started a similar thread last year. I will have a search. I think dunelm and home base did a well recommended cheaper version.

We used a pole in the end rather than tracks. It was in place already but horrid curtain seller lady told us it would not bear the weight of our curtains. We decided to take the risk and a year on they are absolutely fine.

We used Ida and Ana or Ina and Ada (something like that!) online to get the curtains, they were really good and v competitively priced. The lady who runs it is very helpful if you need something that isn't shown on their site, or if you need general advice.

bit of a hijack but are people worrying about the width of the poles as well? I'm looking at 50mm and they seem few and fae between. is that excessive?

OliviaBenson · 06/10/2013 21:34

We bought an excellent one from Tesco- highly recommend!

I bought a bay curtain pole from The Range for less than £50. It did its job.
