hi i'm a tenant, privately renting. i have a gas safety certificate but it was signed only by the engineer
also, an issue was picked up (no main bonding to meter ncs). A quick google told me that this is bonding is compulsory is that still correct? but no remedial action was taken nor was a label and warning notice issued.
it passed. no-one has ever contacted me to say that work will be done. i've lived here almost four months now.

how dodgy is this? how dangerous? how legal?

depends, often they don't impose changes to standards retrospectively so whilst certain things may now regulation there may be no requirement to bring an existing installation up to it.

www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help/gas_emergency.aspx

Am wondering if any numbers on here can give you some information, or point you in the right direction.

contact the engineer and ask about it. If he is on the gas safe register (you can also check that) he is obliged to get it right.

as noted, not all fixes have to be implemented retrospectively, but if he is a legit engineer he would not have left you with an unsafe system.

It isn't just gas its electric too. I have just had one done and had the work done to gain the certificate.
They checked every socket, switch, circuit board, gas fire, boiler wiring, that's just off the top of my head.

thanks that looks like a good site

oops just realised it's not a certificate it's a 'gas safety record' so not everythign was thoroughly checked

I think the record is the same as the certificate - it just says "certificate" on the part that goes to the LL and "record" on the part that goes to the tenant.

Glub, has the engineer put a priority code next to the description of works required? And is 'no main bonding to meter' exactly what he's written? If the installation is dangerous, the report will say so and he'll have slapped a warning sticker/label on the incoming equipment/meter, so don't worry too much.

It's usually only signed by the engineer. It's not always that a landlord is in attendance when the checks are carried out.

The mains bonding. Depends when your meter was installed. It's actually a British Gas/National grid issue. Not a landlord. National Grid install the meters

Your meter shouldn't be dangerous. The certificate has passed your gas appliances (boiler and gas hob?) so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The next time National Grid upgrade your meter, they will no doubt deal with the remarks left by the engineer.
