Or are the removals firms happy for you to leave them in?

Why don't you ask them?

Smartiepants79 · 25/09/2013 15:46

I think you can normally leave them in but I would check.

HerRoyalNotness · 25/09/2013 15:47

I left them in on our recent move. Are they packing for you or are you doing it? If the latter, give them a call

WeleaseWodger · 25/09/2013 15:49

Yes. The removal company told us it wasn't necessary, but the people who did the actual moving grumbled differently (they end up emptying them).

rumbelina · 25/09/2013 16:06

waiting Yes that would be the obvious thing to do but we haven't booked anyone yet as we don't have a fixed date. I was just wondering what was the norm.

We have always left the stuff in the drawers but I always pre-warned the removal company and they were always find. I think it's the norm :)

We tried to leave the stuff in on the last move, but the removal men spoke to us as if we were mad...

I like that idea

yawningbear · 26/09/2013 07:40

We were told to leave everything inside, drawers & wardrobes, they tied them shut.

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 08:12

We've never emptied drawers,I thought that was the while point of packersGrin

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 08:13

Whole

vj32 · 26/09/2013 08:16

I'm emptying draws. I have a tall chest of draws and I don't like the idea of 2 men having to carry that weight extra down the stairs when they don't have to.

vj32 · 26/09/2013 08:17

Just had a thought... is this why people on here tip removals men so much - because they don't empty anything before hand so make it more difficult?

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 11:49

They don't carry them down full usually and they don't do anything that is 'too heavy' for them ime. They usually take the drawers out, put them back in in the lorry and tape them up, then take then out and reassemble the other end.

You will be stunned how quickly they do all this, it's really amazing.

Just sit back and leave then to it, after all that's what you are paying for.

I always to a tenner per person 'for a drink.'

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 11:49

Tip not to

KatoPotato · 26/09/2013 11:51

Our movers wrapped everything in industrial cling film stuff! But I enjoyed sorting and repacking them

rumbelina · 26/09/2013 12:48

catlady good advice re wood or chipboard - the chipboard ones I will empty but the wood ones have my underwear in so perhaps I should empty those too as my knickers are a bit rubbish :)

rumbelina · 26/09/2013 12:49

Oh god I hadn't even thought about tipping. Thanks for bringing that up, tenner each? Is that normal?
