So after 10 days from our last offer being rejected the vendors have changed their minds and accepted!
If anyone has any solar pv, solar thermal experience and/ or tips then sling them this way. We are gonna need them!
Thanks in advance...

What quote did you have for connecting electric (£25k?) and how far away were you? (nosy as looking at somewhere not currently connected)

oolaroola · 24/09/2013 10:44

Am not sure how faraway it is, but the current vendor has had a quote of about25k to connect. eek! Think we will be concentrating on upgrading the solar system to start with. Where is the place you are looking at?
Oh and btw the estate agent's view on how much it was to connect was more than 10k away from reality so beware asking them for any facts.

It's actually in a suburban area but 500m down a track. I wouldn't ask an estate agent any serious questions. Using a self-calc wizard on the electricity provider's website it looks like ~£25k.

At the moment it just has a generator. I'd want a grid connection even if that is supplemented by solar etc

Ah that's interesting about the calculator. I will have to check that out, thanks. Apparently it can take the elec company quite a long time to actually go ahead and connect.
What's your thinking on connecting vs not? We aren't 100% sure as yet either way, but I do quite like the thought of being more in control of our ow power.

i would definitely connect - if only to benefit from selling back to the grid ( i think but i am no expert!). also you've got no recourse if your home grown system goes wrong - electricity companies get fined very heavily for breaks in supply for domestic users so its rare to be more than a day or 2 without power but if your panels/system go wrong you are at the behest of tradespeople who have no such compulsion.
