Buying a house - getting buildings insurance

We're in the process of buying a house (currently renting) and have been told that we need to get buildings insurance for the new house by the time we exchange contracts.

We already have contents insurance with LV so I rang to get a quote for buildings thinking they could just add it on to the contents and we'd get a good price for having both with the same company.

We have paid about £220 for contents and now they have quoted £206 for buildings. So a total of £426. This seems expensive - is this the 'normal' price (first time we've needed buildings insurance). Comparison websites saying £160+ for buildings but I thought it would be cheaper if we got both with the same company? I don't know if it is worth changing contents to a new supplier to get a better deal (assuming we can cancel contents insurance after only 7 months?!)

doesn't seem a bad price to me, just renewed ours at £30 per month so £360, this does include some expensive items though.

I've just had the delightful experience of trying to sort insurance (buildings and contents) for our home move last week. I managed to get a policy for £266 in the end plus £75 cashback for a decent level of cover so I was pleased, given that one place quoted me £1050! I am not sure you would get a better deal if you split the cover or not- it seems to come down the particulars of what you are having to insure and whether you are wanting any extras such as accidental damage etc. I don't think it is automatically cheaper to get both bits of cover with same company (although logic would suggest it should be!!).

When we renewed with morethan they gave us free contents insurance with buildings cover so might be worth looking at them for future savings...they were also reasonable last year and this year helps to offset cost of larger house!
