Vendor taking their time (2 weeks!) to respond about offer

We put in an offer on Tuesday and have now even told we aren't likely to hear her decision till end of next week at the earliest! She clearly wants to have all potential offers in and go with the highest bidder :(

That's fair enough isn't it? If you really want it, make sure you make a competitive offer.

We had this. Turned out the estate agent was scrabbling around to find other people to book in for viewings to push up the price. They denied it. I caught them out. I appreciate that they are in business to get the best price for the vendor, but to lie about it was unforgivable.

I found a better house and withdrew my offer.

If they've got other interest and are going to sealed bids, that's one thing. Keeping a one- off offer hanging around for two weeks to try to generate a situation is not on. Unless you're desperate for the house, Id out a time limit on your offer....

WeleaseWodger · 20/09/2013 18:32

I'd phone up and tell them you found another house and want to make an offer, unless they can decide by tmrw.

I second adding a expiry date in your offer. After which point you walk away (or so you make them think anyway).

HairyPorter · 20/09/2013 19:08

I loved the property. It wasn't perfect but it was close enough to perfect. And we haven't seen anything that even comes close :( we have a few viewings lined up over the weekend and I'm tempted to say after the weekend that we are going to offer on one of those... What if it backfires though and she decides to sit it out?! Maybe we'll get lucky and she won't get any more offers anyway? If I didn't like the house so much if walk away as really don't like being toyed with like this!

We've offered as much as we can afford and its jut below the asking price. We're chain free and have a good deposit and we're happy to be flexible wrt her timing of her move and I think we should be quite attractive as buyers?

We actually offered the full asking price because we didn't want to get in a bidding war. The agents were plain greedy in our case. Imagine my disgust when they won some agent of the year award.

I would continue looking as even if they agree to keep your options open.
