RANGE COOKER suggestions? 30 amp or 45 amp electric supply?

I am thinking along the lines of a new Rangemaster or something a bit more substantial and secondhand say la Cluny or Falcon type.

I only have 100cm gap well 107cm to be exact.

The electrician is coming next week to upgrade the supply does your range cooker have the connection to the left or the right and how long is the cable.

if you mean you're having a new circuit installed, I would go for one capable of supplying 45A. Unless your cable passes through a hot area or is buried in insulation or is very long, it can probably be done in 6mm T&E. The electrician will calculate it on site. the next size down is 32A, not 30A.

No point in going for 4mm cable as it is nearly as expensive and the labour cost will be the same.

I hope you haven't got an electric shower or underfloor heating.

Thanks pigletjohn, yes new supply, short run of cable over a door frame, internal wall, no insulation or bunched cables and certainly not hot. Will see if 10mm will fit if not will use 6mm that's good to know.

We have 2 electric showers and a mains shower but no underfloor heating, I don't mind replacing the consumer unit, if necessary.

The company fuse to your house will not be more than 100A, quite likely 80A

Add up the potential load if they were all running together. Cookers rarely draw max load unless you turn everything on from cold. Showers usually draw max load.
