Could I get a kitchen and double glazing for 4k?

We live in a small bungalow with a small galley kitchen. We need 7 or 8 new double glazed windows and a new front door. But our kitchen is also really old and worn. I spent 4k on a new bathroom as so dp has agreed he will donate 4k to renovating the house.... We really need new windows but I would love a new kitchen.... Is it possible to have both? Neither of us are any good at DIY so will also have to pay for labour.... Is it realistic or should we choose one or another?

no. no way will you get both for that money IMO esp if you need the kitchen fitted.

We spent 1.5k on a patio door, I wouldn't think you would do all the windows on that tbh.

Hm, will probably have to be practical and get windows then

I think you might be able to manage it, particularly if you could do most of the kitchen fitting yourself and it really is a small kitchen. Ikea kitchen and pay cash for the double glazing and negotiate a reduction for cash. Double Glazing firms suggest that they provide interest free credit. It is not interest free, they just pretend it is, and most of them offer a fairly hefty cash discount. I got over a grand off my massive patio door that way. Also, if you are a woman (hating myself for saying this) you might want to get a man to do the negotiating for you. One double glazing idiot insisted I called my husband when I was deciding against his quote (which was two grand higher than the one we went for in the end) to 'check' with him. I think they are sometimes a bit straighter with men, and if you have a male friend who is a builder who can talk to them for you, even better.

Thanks mummytomog just saw on tv you can get cheap ex display kitchen units.... Might look out for those. And totally agree about getting men to negotiate for double glazing....

get a wooden front door and frame. It will more secure, more attractive, and more reliable than a plastic door. It will last 100 years longer and cost £1,000 less.

I think you could easily do a small galley kitchen for around 2k if you're prepared to DIY. I would think 8 double glazed units and a new front door would be well over the 2k left over though.

You can buy really good second hand kitchens on eBay for next to nothing and then fit them in your self.

That'll cost about 400 quid and then you've plenty to spend on windows

If your kitchen layout is ok, just replace the doors?

We recently got 6 double glazed windows though and it was around 4k. If you have someone who can fit them and buy direct you will save on that. But I think you'll be pushed to get new windows and a new kitchen on 4k, especially if you're not DIY-people.
