1960s semi - asbestos report?

We're in the process of buying a 1960s semi. I had read about asbestos before, so when I saw the ceilings were artex I thought this might be a problem but decided to wait & see what the survey said. Report is back but he hasn't mentioned it. I've queried it with him, but in the meantime started getting quotes from plasterers to put new ceilings in. Basically the plasterers won't even consider removing it just in case of asbestos and will only skim the surface to make it even. Now I'm looking at getting an asbestos survey done, which will be £250 ( they sample materials and take them to a lab for testing). Am I taking this too far?
There are hundreds of houses in this area of the same style, so it can't be a new problem! Although i've mentioned it to a few people and they say it's not something they ever thought about. (Ignorance is bliss!)
i know that asbestos is supposed to be ok if left undisturbed, but I'm worried that it will worry me, and I will worry in case it affects my son's health.
Anyone had any similar experiences?

We had a survey as OH wanted one. Turned out we had it in floor tiles which I'd have possibly tried to take up - instead we screed over to seal them in safely.

If the artex was asbestos what benefit would you get? Reduce offer? Decide to skim to replace? Not buy house?

And is the chance of any benefit worth the 250GBP to you?

It's a tiny amout and not the worst stuff. Skimming should be fine.

We had an asbestos survey which found the stuff in artex and in the floor tiles. Personally we won't live in a home with asbestos in it so we're going to have it taken out.

I know it's not supposed to cause a problem until it starts degrading etc but it's just not something that we are prepared to compromise on. You might think differently.
