What is a really, really, really good bathroom paint please?

Looking for something easy to apply and steam friendly (teenage girls forever showering and bathing without opening the window or turning the extractor on). Don't want it to look overly shiny if possible. :)

CuddyMum · 06/10/2013 12:11

We used a F&B (sorry Blush) external masonry paint. It was a tip from a painter and decorator. It is fantastic, as it is meant to protect external walls, but is still breathable, etc. we did it 4 years ago and it looks as good now as it did when we finished it.

if people insist on having showers with no ventilation, then the bathroom will suffer condensation, damp and mould. Paint will also peel, especially from the ceiling.

If they won't turn the fan on (some people have a psychological aversion to ventilation) it would be a good idea to have it wired so it comes on with the bathroom light, and stays on for 20 minutes after the light goes out. This is easy and common, any electrician will know how.

If the fan is worn out and noisy, get a new one (preferably with a ball-bearing motor).

...and also fit a timer to the shower so it cuts out after five minutes!

Hey babypowder don't be sorry - it's a good tip indeed!

Piglet my main problem is teenagers! I wonder if the electrician could fix it so that they hang the wet towels up and transport the clothes to the laundry basket too :)

We just had Dulux trade Diamond matt painted in our, very well ventilated, bathroom. It looks great and is scrubbable but shows condensation streaks when dry until you wipe them away. The decorator and supplier were mystified but Dulux customer services says it is due to it being a dark colour and it should stop doing it soon. They would have recommended the eggshell finish (presumably still trade range) for a dark colour bathroom paint if I'd asked them first.

Definitely a light colour I need.

if nobody else does it, they eventually will.

We used Laura Ashley kitchen and bathroom paint in duck egg.
It is like an eggshell paint so really hard wearing - it can be scrubbed!
