Granite or quartz kitchen work tops?

Title says it all really! Need a fairly large slab and wanted granite so found a good local stockist at a good price and now dh has decided he wants quartz, which costs them more to supply so I'd have to start looking all over again...

They seem similar in price- anyone have any opinions or experience of one/ both please?
Tia !

I've had brown granite & now have black granite(beautiful but awful to keep shiny) but will be going for quartz on new kitchen because I've found one I like that goes with my units.
Performance wise they are very similar I think. I would pick what you like within your budget.

I'm looking too.
I really fancy the look of Carrera Marble & Silestone make a good one. I think for pale colours a composite wins but for the look of something more real 'organic' granite. I shall follow this with interest.

Thanks. We want either black or grey and both are readily available in quartz and granite for around the same price so it really will come down to practicalities or warnings for or against a specific one!

Are the quartz work tops the ones with sparkly bits in? If so, I'm afraid I'm not a fan. It's all a bit like a bar in a bad nightclub.

No glittery bits in our house! Quartz comes in a huge range of colours and effects.

I would avoid black and shiny, you'll never stop polishing!

We're definitely looking for kore of a matt/ stone finish. I'm a little fussy Smile

I've got non-sparkly quartz and love it. I think the performance is pretty much identical so it's just down to price and your preference on appearance.

I am having honed Nero assoluto granite. Looks a bit like slate which I love. I wanted a very plain mat look. I think quartz has more occlusions in it.
