PigletJohn do you know anything about Potterton Boilers :(

Hi Piglet, I crumbled tonight and put heating on, however the clock is two hours slow. I don't know how to reset it. I've scoured on line for a manual (the one I have is rubbish) without success, well there's manuals but I can't find one that gives simple instructions to reset the clock.

I've always managed to get someone else to do it for me but I'm home alone right now. It's a Suprima HE boiler. :(

I have to nip out, will be back soon.

I've had a few, but what you are describing is not the boiler, but the programmer which will be a proprietary part probably made by ACL Drayton or Honeywell, and possibly rebadged.

What colour is it; does it have some names and numbers on it; does it have a rotating wheel or a digital display.

Monty27 · 10/09/2013 21:45

It's a digital display, it's about 6 years old. It all works, I just don't know how to reset the clock, aside from switching if off until the clock is at the right time? Grin

Thanks for getting back to me by the way, I knew I could rely on it :)

What buttons are there on the display?

PigletJohn · 10/09/2013 22:21

and what words, letters, numbers? And what colour?

Can you see it here?

Monty27 · 10/09/2013 23:08

Hi PJ, no I couldn't see it there, but on closer inspection, the boiler bit where the digital clock is doesn't indicate any codes or brand name, and it's white, however on the wall is a Honeywell box with the serial code 42002116-001.

There's no search on that site you linked so back to you. I really hope you don't mind this Confused

Oh and the other piece of info I've gleaned is that it's a 80 HE. Not that that has any bearing on the clock from what I can gather, ie it's a Honeywell clock not Potterton?

I feel so thick ashamed. :(

Thanks again :)

there might be a button marked "advance" or "on" or something.

Does your programmer have sliders? like this one?

Or buttons, like this?

PigletJohn · 10/09/2013 23:32

or this?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 10/09/2013 23:33

We used to have a Potterton. It went wrong all the time. Especially when we turned it on after the summer. There would always be something wrong. We kept a warranty scheme running on it and had engineers out all the time. They said Pottertons were pretty much all they worked on, they were so shit and so unbelievably unreliable.

Not helpful, sorry, but in my experience it could be bloody anything.

Monty27 · 10/09/2013 23:51

Neither of those PJ, there's no sliders, you need a microscope and bright light to see the silly digital display.

It has advance, which is what I put it on to get heat at 6.30 when the clock was reading 4.30. so it's two hours out, so I need to do the maths and see how long to leave it off so it syncs into BST and then I'll have the same problem come the Autumn clock change Grin

Last Autumn it stayed on BST but it was so cold I didn't mind it coming on an hour earlier. Grrrrr.

Ilove it was throwing good money after bad they day I got that boiler. I kid you not. It has cost me an absolute fortune in the 5/6 years I've had it Angry

if the display is abnormally small, it might be some other brand.

The other box you found is just a junction box, and might not be the same brand as the programmer.

The word "advance" suggests it might be an ACL Drayton. Browse the models on www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/TimeControls.aspx

the Honeywell range is on www.honeywelluk.com/products/Time-Switches-and-Programmers/

There is a chance that the instructions for the programmer were put with the boiler instructions and might still be in that drawer.

You might be able to put a photo of it on your profile.

Monty27 · 11/09/2013 00:29

PJ it's not in either of those. The instructions I was given at the time of installation made such little sense that I stood doing it myself and writing notes on the instructions, then typed it up in a language that I could understand, as in 1. do this, 2. do that, 3. blah blah. (iyswim) so that was about setting the times you want it to come on and go off, which I've managed. (with difficulty)

But what I'm trying to do now is tell it that its two hours behind time, not reset the whole settings of off and on off and on. Just the clock. Aaargh. It did occur to me earlier to take a photo of it, but I'm just too knackered and will need to get 20yo dd to do it for me :)

This boiler has caused me so much pain over the years, I just want to move house Shock

I work programmes every day at work :(
