I need a raw plug fitting that will go into plasterboard without falling out 6 months later and proving dh right that we should have put a baton up in the first place.

There must be something?

Yep - you need this kind of thing -

www.diy.com/nav/fix/hardware/screws/specialist_screws/-specificproducttype-self_drilling_screws/Rawlplug-Metal-Self-Drill-07115-One-Size-9281502?skuId=9291202

There are different brands, but the important thing is that sort of wide thread because it spreads the load

We used. " Driva's" : they are metal screw-in fixings (a box of 100 is about £8-9 from Screwfix or Toolstation). They come with the correct thread screws to put into them, if you need it to be shorter you cut the screw down to size with a hacksaw. To site them, you put the fixing in first with an electric screwdriver or a hand screwdriver and elbow grease til it's flush with the wall, then put the screw into the driva to secure your whatever.
So far we've used them for towel rails, bathroom cabinets and mirrors....all are still ok six months on.....

For heavier things, you need Hollow Wall Anchors.

You drill the hole then hammer in the empty plug. Put the screw back in so there's just a small gap between it and the plug.

Then you use the fixing tool to pull the screw towards yourself and spread the metal legs behind the plasterboard.

After that, just unscrew the screw and use it with the now secure plug to attach whatever you want to hang to the wall.

In pictures...

I'm afraid my vote's for the baton. Unless your curtains are super-lightweight that's a lot of weight to trust to, what, three plasterboard fixings?
