Wording in ending a tenancy

We are handing in our notice at the end of this month and I can't decide on the wording we should use in the letter to the agents. Does it have to be really formal, or can I just state that we are handing in our notice as per our tenancy agreement? Ideas welcome!

as long as it is clear, it doesn't matter. Date the letter, state that the notice is for day 'x' and that you will be leaving on day 'y'. (notice usually has to be given on your rental payment day to expire on the next rental payment day)

also doesn't hurt to confirm arrangements such as checkout and inventory, and to list any furniture that belongs to the landlord and that you will therefore be leaving.

oh, and add a note that you will be expecting refund of your deposit by date 'z' with any disputes to be raised in accordance with the scheme in which it is lodged.

i just sent an email to our letting agent along the lines of:

"please accept this email as written confirmation that we wish to end our tenancy. we will vacate the property and return keys on x day. please confirm receipt of this email and inform us of the date of deposit return."

we gave them the forwarding address also. deposit was back within two weeks i think.
