Please help me sort out my kitchen bin!!

Sad thread title I know, but I am going for an integrated bin in a 450mm base unit (which will pull out like a drawer) and struggling to fine what I need.

I need to get the whole mechanism - I only have the cabinet and door at the moment,
Despite lots of google searching this is the cheapest I can find and it is too much!

I think it is made by Hafele.

I also wanted a single bin as my recycling will go under the sink.

Can anyone help me find a cheaper alternative, with the mechanism and bin included?

Many thanks...

I would suggest - buy a 450mm full extension pan drawer box like this. Alternatively, cheaper but not quite full extension is this sort, you will need just need to cut your own bit of wood for the base/back.

Set the drawer at the bottom of the unit, attach the door to the front with one handle in the middle (like a dishwasher). Then put any bin you like in the drawer, e.g. one of the Ikea ones, and you will have some spare space for bits and pieces too.

Or you could set the drawer higher, and cut a hole in the base to slot the bin into it?

Thanks fossil, I thought that might be the best way.
Do you think the door would be stable and not wobble about with such a low drawer to hold it up?
Also am not sure how the bin is contained in the drawer so it doesn't move about when the drawer is opened!
I remember you had this kind of set up with your bins, do they sit firm into the drawer?

Sorry I don't mean to keep pestering your kitchen threads Smile. We've had this setup twice and it's been OK,the doors don't wobble. That's the reason for going for a deep/pan drawer. We have our bins a bit wedged in the drawer and things like the box of dishwasher tablets and spare bags are stuffed hide behind them. I'm sure you could rig up a little divider between the side rails or screwed to the base, Ikea have some similar bits could be chopped down.

this and its rather flimsy looking lid is a much better bin than it would appear. Has lasted us 18 months so far.

Please don't apologise fossil I am really grateful for your help - will be glad then the kitchen is all done!
I am good on the style stuff but a bit at sea with at all the practical nitty gritty so any advice is very welcome.
Will check out all your links and talk to my fitter.
Thanks again.

And that IKEA bin is a bargain.
Got to love IKEA!

Ah well I am an engineer, I was on a mission against overpriced interior fittings and drove DH and his poor friend the carpenter up the wall with my customisations. Latest idea is to cut a little scoop out of the cupboard base (hidden behind the drawer front) so I can open the bin unit with my toe. So tempted to just go and find the jigsaw and do it!

Pannacotta · 04/09/2013 12:22

Yes would be nice to open it with your feet!
DO you think £40-50 is the lowest I will get a proper pan drawer for the unit? Don't reallt want to have to customise the drawer like your second link.
I will do some looking but have the kids here so am limited for time/head space!

Also, do you happen to know of any good (and cheap) suppliers for a corner pull out thing? I prefer the shelves to the wire systems so I can use it for pans etc.
This kind of thing

Thanks again...

I think that's not a bad price TBH for the arena corner. I couldn't find any tandembox cheaper than about £45 a drawer either.

With the Metabox (the cheap one) you just buy the sides and runners. The fitter has to cut some wood of your own (like an offcut of end panel or MDF) to the right size for the back and base, the cutting instructions are on the Blum website or I expect a professional fitter would have seen them before. Not exactly a customisation but just not preassembled.

I just googled all the bits I needed and bought them from all kinds of different suppliers including ebay. annalouise might have some tips as she is in the trade. 3d kitchens, clutterfree kitchens were both happy to supply odds and ends.
