Do I need to use primer to paint emulsion on interior walls?

I have just moved into a new house and will need to re-paint the whole inside, so we have a big job ahead. Most of the rooms are painted in fairly pale colours (pale blue, lemon and magnolia mainly) and one room is painted a VERY strong dark pink.

Will we need to use primers on all the walls or only in Barbie's old bedroom the illuminous pink one?

You don't need primers on any interior walls, you only need it on surfaces that may not hold paint such as unpainted wood, metal, formica etc.

Will I need something to stop the bright pink showing through a paler colour, or just an extra coat of emulsion? Thanks!

You might need many coats to cover a strong colour with a pale colour.

If your finished colour is expensive, I'd give it a coat or 2 of cheap white emulsion first.

I'd paint it with cheap white emulsion first so that it doesn't taint whatever colour you want to put on top - it might take a couple of coats.

I would paint over the pink with a cheaper white emulsion first, which should mean you need to do less coats of the more expensive coloured emulsion.

Thanks everyone!
