Cost of a new kitchen?

We have a relatively small space to work with and DP is insisting we go with HomeBase. They have quoted us £10,000.

Could we get it cheaper elsewhere? It just seems an awful lot to me for a small space!

Can you do it yourself? I've just had a new kitchen put in - bought the units from wickes & my dad fitted them, he says it's really easy to do, and it looks fab. Just paid for a joiner to fit the worktops round the sink, ceramic hob etc, cost £150.

heard to many horror stories about homebase fitting service. We got homebase to quote (?8500 4 years ago without appliances) but ended up goign with a local kitchen company at ?12k all in with flooring levelled, all electrics, new cieling, blah, blah.

The rule usually is ?5k bathrooms, up to ?15k kitchens unless you are going full on Miele appliances, oak cabinets, granite worktops in which case you will probably top out around ?30k.

Anyone used Ikea fitters? Were they ok? Or did you buy ikea kitchen and get someone to fit it?

What are magnet like? K worked out on their planner a kitchen for 7 grand inc fitting but it was pretty basic.

I have a smallish kitchen and don't really want to spend more than 7 grand tbh.

We are in the process of getting some quotes from Naked Kitchens www.nakedkitchens.com/

We have an awkward space and I was struggling as so many units are standard sizes and would mean we would have a lot of dead space. These guys make everything to the size you need, and seem a lot cheaper than other bespoke companies we have looked at.
We are also thinking of getting our oak worktops from them - may be worth a look!

Lagoonblue we used IKEA fitters. It's a third party company - round our way this company does the John Lewis kitchen fitting as well. The fitters themselves were excellent, the back office organisation left a lot to be desired - we got messed about with dates etc.

Just taken delivery of my beautiful painted, in my choice of Farrow and Ball paint, kitchen from DIY kitchens.

To put it in perspective we were quoted £8500 from Wren and £5500 from Wickes. DIY Kitchens for the exactly the same units etc with delivery of 2 men delivery team and I had to pay extra for the small van delivery as our road is too narrow for their normal lorry came to £3800.

I viewed mine to see what they looked like at a local kitchen store.

The only thing that I advise against as I have had previous experience of, from a B&Q kitchen, is the "wrapped" kitchens are not very durable when exposed to heat and water etc.

At DIY you have to measure the kitchen and you are responsible for ordering the kitchen yourself. It is all done on line.

The original date on this thread is 2013 but looks like it got spammed and it has re-launched.

I had an Ikea kitchen fitted 2 years ago and love it. I liked their pricing because there was no "sale" price, just this is a cupboard and it costs X, the door costs Y add the two together. Do you want stainless steel feet? Or plastic things that hide behind the plinth?

It was easy to design and order, I had a local fitter install it as I had a kitchen extension built and Ikea wouldn't come round and measure up until they had knocked through. I just guessed the measurements (I live really close to an Ikea so it was easy to get stuff or take it back)

But we only bought the cabinets and extractor from them as the extractor fits inside the cabinet. Appliances were Whirpool and we just double checked the measurements as Ikea supply Whirlpool but not the ones we wanted. They came from AO (appliances online)

Worktop from an Axiom supplier, tap, sink, hot water tap, lighting etc all sourced on-line.

Flooring from local company and sockets/light switches from Toolstation.

Total cost for the kitchen was about £9k but it is 6m long kitchen plus utility for lighting and flooring. Cabinets cost £3.5k. My induction hob was £850 though. No regrets.
