Sofabed - quick order

maggiethecat · 27/08/2013 13:02

I need to get one in about 2 weeks. John Lewis and some others have lead times of about 6 weeks.
Want a comfortable, well made one with quick delivery - other than Ikea, where can I look?

eBay?

I don't get sofabeds. They always seem a bit complicated to me. As an alternative, Argos do electric pump blow up beds which are at bed height - really comfotable and deflate back into a small space when not needed.
So, why buy a sofabed, get a normal sofa and a blow up bed and probably save some money? Grin

Nabru.

We have a Nabru sofa, they are really well made. If you do go for one, though, get them to make it. DH and DS2 had a nightmare doing ours. It was deliverd swiftly, about 48hours IIRC.

John Lewis have a limited selection that are available in a week, however your choice of colours etc will be restricted, the majority are available in 6wks.
Otherwise I have no idea sorry. We've just bought an Ikea sofa (arriving next week) and a John Lewis sofabed (arriving in 5wks) but didn't really look elsewhere.
Google says here or Next have some with 4day delivery and marks & spencers have some with a week

I have a sofabed made by a bed company rather than a sofa company so it's got a good thick mattress and is incredibly comfy. So it might be worth ringing around sone bed places and manufacturers. Mine was relying but not sure if they still do them.

I also have aerobeds - the inflatable mattress depth fancy air beds (not the double layer ones!) that are also incredibly comfy. I had to sleep on one for several months and it was great - certainly significantly better to sleep on than the guest bed my sis has or the hotel beds islept on whilst away this summer! I've also had elderly relatives sleep on it when needing to put lots of people up and they went from being apprehensive to start with to finding it so comfortable they invested in one of their own so they could take it with them as a spare bed when staying with other relatives where the spare bed is much less than comfortable! Then you could get an ordinary sofa or chairs if space allows and you need them, which might be a bit easier...

Try looking too on eBay on some of the big name outlets on there as they will be able to do short notice. Laura Ashley and Archie and I think John Lewis all have them along with many more.

Also try the bargain places that take overstocks and returns from places like John Lewis and similar. Trade secrets near Banbury (bloxham maybe?) is one - you can ring up if you know what you want and they'll let you know if they have it in stock or if they can get it for you quickly. Google Alison home bargains - she runs a site that lusts more of these stores.

Multiyork have some outlet places in some of their stores that might be worth checking out as they are for immediate delivery - usually pretty comfy

Do you know the sort of sofa you want if time were not a factor?

Is it mostly going to be a sofa, or mostly a bed? We have one in our study that's rarely used for sitting on... Ikea lycksele: one of the most comfortable beds ever, but pretty lame as a sofa. If it's primarily a sofa, I'd go for a sofa, and get a blow up mattress instead.

very helpful posts - especially about aerobeds.
Need to get something for mum who has back issues so it has to be comfortable.

BrownSauce - I'm with you on the Lycksele sofa. We sold ours recently in near-perfect condition because it was so excruciatingly uncomfortable to sit on. But as a bed it was excellent.

We've had aerobeds and we're completely put off it. They still do deflate overnight and we had the fanciest aerobed from John Lewis. Not good long term investment!

If it's for the lounge and if you don't have other sofas, I also'd advise against buying sofabeds online - they look good but more often than not they are uncomfortable and hard to sit on. Lots of people I know spend ages trying to find sofabed that is actually pleasant to sit on.

but if it's just for guest room, order away if you like. A few online companies (Nabru being good example) do next day deliveries if you are not too picky about colour/fabric.
