Moving home - chains

Last tue we had offer accepted on our house and made an offer on new house which was accepted. Person buying ours is a first time buyer with mortgage promise already in place and person were buying off has no onward chain. They just need to sell and get out. I was just wondering how long it takes til we'll get keys? First time we've moved so have no idea. All solicitors have been appointed as well and information packs already completed. Would be interested it hear other people's moving stories and how long it took to get into your new home.

From recent experience I can honestly say that it's impossible to tell. I was on the ball and so was everyone else involved into a similar short chain yet we hit a big issue at the stage where solicitors raise questions with each other.
It can be done in a matter of weeks but you never know.
Hope it all goes smoothly for you Smile

That's what I thought. Our house is only 15 years old and the one were buying is only 3 years old so hoping everything will go quickly and smoothly.

All sorts of problems can crop up, I have never moved in less than three months from offer to completion.

The average time used to be about three months on an agreed sale/purchase. I don't know if there is a reason why it might have changed.

Your chain sounds very straightforward.

Are you selling a house or a flat? Flats an be slightly more complicated.

It varies depending on so many different factors.

I've done it in 5-6 weeks before now (v v stressful). Our current sale/purchase is ticking along, we accepted an offer on ours on 7th July and still no date for exchange but we're not in a hurry.

keep pestering. Make sure your solicitor has got weaving with searches, and ask your estate agent to chase your buyer's solicitor.

no chain upward? So where is the seller going? Do they mean it about moving into a rental? (Been there...)

Were in no rush to move just very very excited! Lol. It's a house were selling and the lady were buying is moving into her dads to be his carer as he has terminal cancer :( x

Oh and our buyer is using the solicitors recommended by the estate agent so hopefully that'll be useful.

We have just sold and bought in just under 6 weeks. Had a brilliant solicitor and our buyer and seller used same which made it easier. We were all keen to move quickly and no unexpected issues came up. A friend had a chain like op and bought 2 months before us and still have not moved yet mainly due to internet solicitors not doing things on time.
