Talk to me about sliding pocket doors (that hide in internal walls)

I quite fancy getting these doors installed at some stage. Are they sturdy, easy to move? Do they look neat?

hi - once installed they pretty much stay where they are put - so plan well first ! ideal in a lot of situations as they allow easy access and maximum storage space inside and outside the room ! ie you can fill the space without having to accommodate a swinging door .
most are built within the wall cavity - but if you want a more traditional look ( ie for an older property ) maybe consider an sliding hung door instead

Thanks WookiesWife.

How much did yours cost, where did you get them and who put them in for you?

We've just bought some this week so haven't fitted them yet. I think it is this product: www.pocketdoors.co.uk/luce_dd.htm and dh/ our builder seem quite happy with it. It was about £750(excluding actual doors, which you can buy anywhere). Can update when we get round to fitting them!

I saw some in a Grand Designs expo a couple of years ago and thought "Ooo I'm having those" (When we get around to doing our extension, that is.) Unfortunately I can't remember the make I liked! What I particularly liked was that they felt solid, not flimsy, they moved steadily without any wobble, and could be removed from the cavity to retrieve things posted in by the toddlers (that shows just how long it's been - I don't have any toddlers left!)

They are great ! And so much more stable nowadays than the 70's versions !!!

We had them in a rented property abroad. It was a new build so we were the 1st tenants. I loved them soooo much I took photos when we left, just in case we ever build our own 'Grand Design'.......sadly I've just realised I can't upload a photos to this thread.......sorry. They were beech (I think) and the whole wall was a contemporary beech finish with two sliding doors, one to all and other to kitchen.
