Hey I have a 2 bed council house. Dp and I have a baby boy and dp has a daughter who's nearly 5. She stays with us every 2nd weekend. In the near future I would like our baby boy to have his own room. We ha a double bedroom and looking for ideas of how I can divide it in 2 so the can have a room of there own. I always had my room growing up and I want same for baby boy. Any ideas?

I think you may need to soak to the council if you are dividing the room. it could be in breech of your contact with them and may also breech fire regulations. Also you can't touch the electrics etc so presumably one room would have no electric/lights?

coffeewineandchocolate · 14/08/2013 18:32

speak not soak...

I've seen rooms split with a big wall unit in between to create designated spaces something like this

I divided a bedroom with two wardrobes placed side by side. One facing one way and the other the opposite way so both children had wardrobe space

Rose what is your problem? That was very rude

RandomMess · 14/08/2013 19:54

Would the other bedroom be easier to split in 2?

Soundofraindrops84 · 14/08/2013 20:00

She must odd, maybe I'm the only person out there who wants my child to have his own space when he grows Confused

No random, one double bedroom and one single I'm afraid, I would try and get a swap but the location is good for us, just want an alternative until we're in a position to buy

What about a curtain? Would maybe be a solution if the council won't let you put in an actual solid divide.

BettyandDon · 14/08/2013 20:10

Ikea expedit in the middle. Needs to be secured though in case of climbing!

lemontwist · 14/08/2013 20:11

The previous owners of hour house had taken down the wall between the master bedroom and the single and blocked the door into the single to make one big L shaped room. We usd tree's idea of wardobes to split them until DH rebuilt the wall and knocked the door through again.

Soundofraindrops84 · 14/08/2013 20:22

A few good ideas to consider thanks, also like curtain idea lemon, could make it fun for the kids as still both young, plus might not be as big an issue to the council.

I find it odd and rude that one child's needs come above another.

Anyways good luck with parting the room for your PFB.

Soundofraindrops84 · 14/08/2013 21:21

Get a grip who said anything about a child becoming above another??? Seriously get your facts right love!! If I am dividing a room it's for both children but obviously you cannot understand that? Not that I have to explain myself to you but obviously my main concern would be for my child who lives with us at our home full time. Now go and deal with your own issues!!

We also have a large bedroom divided by wardrobes - Ikea ones as it happens. There is only a window on one side & the ceiling light is on the same side (although the smaller side has two lamps) so we needed the light to still get through.

LazyMonkeyButler · 14/08/2013 21:29

Rose - if OP only wanted a room for her "PFB", then she would have him in the single bedroom alone & have her DP's DD on a camp bed in the lounge/garage/tent in garden.

By partitioning the room, she is hoping to make a separate space for each - no? Hmm

Soundofraindrops84 · 14/08/2013 21:46

Thank you lazy for you suggestion and your last post :) We should sympathise with rose as she must have an issue from the past which she needs to deal with!! Confused

I shall have a look in my look in my local ikea at the weekend.

Campbed also an idea, eh rose Grin lol
