Moulded interior doors

We need to replace 5 interior doors as cheaply as possible. All doorways in this ramshackle old house are varying sizes.

Is it possible to trim moulded doors? If so, how is the best way to go about it?

If they are cheap hollow doors, which are basically made of air with a thin wrapping of hardboard, you have to take the batten out of the edge, cut the skins, and put the batten back in the new edge. You might manage if you only had to cut one edge per door but I think it would be impractical with more.

What are the actual sizes you need?

I feared as much.

Not at the house at present so unable to give measurements for all but some doors are quite a bit narrower, some are wider than standard "off the shelf cheapys" Iirc the lounge one is is 76in h x 28in w. So that would mean quite a bit of trimming I assume? Especially off height.

So really, whats the next best thing in terms of reasonable doors and where to buy? Some of our door frames are crumbling too, so need replacing.

surprised the bloody house still standing tbh

you can buy doors that are 28" wide (about 712mm). 30" is more common. Have a look at the description and it will probably tell you how much you can skim off the edges. But if it is too tall you can cut the top off and then pin and glue the batten back afterwards.

There are doors on here at 610m wide, which is about 24" doors&af=cat1:mouldeddoors&isort=price&method=and&view=grid&cnt=30 but a local place that sells doors will have a wider selection and might be cheaper. There will be at least one in your town, it is a common trade.

Hollow moulded doors are basically rubbish so your time and money will not be an investment. They will however stop the wind from blowing around inside your house, but won't block noise.
