We're in the bottom half of a big chain (about 7-8 properties in total) and have been since the middle of April. Everyone is all ready to exchange, had completion date agreed in early September - except the people at the bottom of the chain, our buyer's buyers.
They've been faffing about throughout the process, taking ages to complete paperwork, asking stupid questions through the solicitor rather than the estate agent so they delay the whole process. Today, we find out that they might not even have a mortgage - they're apparently trying to do something complicated and may have had first application refused.
Our estate agent has some concerns about how bothered our buyer is about this - she's divorcing and 'finding it hard to let go of the family home' (am obviously sympathetic, but...). So they've suggested we ditch her and put our house back on the market - and are trying to get the whole chain to agree to give us time to do this.
They found a buyer really quickly for us last time, but I'm really unsure about this - aside from the hassle of getting house back to viewing standard (not easy with a 3 year old) I'm not sure I can face it all again. But then might not have any choice. If we lose the money we've spent so far on solicitors fees, mortgage, survey etc, not sure we'll be able to afford to completely start again.
What do we do? (other than have a cry, shout loudly and open a bottle of
