where's a good place to buy a sofa?

I had a little look in John Lewis, but didn't see anything I liked. The ikea ones didn't seem very comfortable. Our old ones are from habitat, but they don't have a branch up here any more. Dwell's gone tits-up, I believe. I am having a mental block about where else to try Confused.

We bought a nice one from Multiyork. Great quality (has lasted fantastically despite being put through its paces) but not cheap.
Heals may be worth a look

Second Multiyork. Bought two six years ago and still looking great - very good quality. Not your cheapest, but they do have offers, sales from time to time, and we bought ours on interest free credit. I think it's worth paying as much as you can for a sofa.

thanks both
I've just had a look at Multiyork, and they're at the top end of our price range, but not out of the question - I don't suppose you know when they tend to have sales?

our nearest Heals is a hour away, and I'd definitely like to buy from a store rather than on line.

I love sofa.com and loaf.

frostyfingers · 05/08/2013 13:52

We got ours - www.sofasofa.co.uk/p/RMAD3/colour/knbd/Madrid-3-Seater-Sofa - from Sofa Sofa. They've last 6 years of heavy use pretty well, I've washed the covers and they did shrink a little initially but stretch again after a day or so. You can get spare covers quite cheaply too - and I'd buy them again.

We've got the 2-seater Kivik from Ikea (that might be Kivick actually). It's nice and deep so you can add lots of cushions if that's your thing. We got it because the covers seemed hard-wearing but mainly for the lovely wide and flat arms (for resting laptops and plates on, slobs that we are).

we have multiyork - around 10 years old and going strong although we may need new covers In a year or two.

multiyork have factory outlet stores - have a google, should be a good it cheaper.

Tobermory · 06/08/2013 08:49

Ill wave the multiyork sofa.

We got ours over 10 years ago, it's on it's second set of covers and a bit creaky but still amazingly comfy. We bought a cheap one from DFS a couple of years ago, we were sucked in by a cheap sale...but it's horrible. It's cheap, uncomfy, lumpy cushions and absolute proof that you get what you pay for. Will be buying a multiyork to replace that one as soon as we have some cash.

Have you looked at M&S? They're doing a Conran range.

piemashandliquer · 12/08/2013 21:49

OP - Multiyork have a sale on right now.

hophophippidtyhop · 13/08/2013 07:24

Habitat are in homebase stores if you have one near you.

womblingalong · 13/08/2013 07:27

Sofa.com, they have discounted ex display ones on eBay too.

kalidasa · 13/08/2013 07:51

Ours is Multiyork too, excellent customer service, and loads and loads of options in terms of choice of fabric/cushion firmness/feet style etc etc. Worth the money I think.

MinimalistMommi · 13/08/2013 10:52

So, off the back of this thread, I have just popped around to our local store which is two minutes walk away, they have a dizzying array of choice! And almost all of them you can choose machine washable covers, even though they look fixed, they're not. We need a new sofa and armchair but I'm not very good at making choices! You can choose legs, fabric, filling etc

MinimalistMommi · 13/08/2013 10:52

To Multiyork that is.

MinimalistMommi · 13/08/2013 11:38

Wow! Having had a closer look they're expensive but I guess you get what you pay for...has anyone visited one of their factory outlet showrooms at all?
