Where to move within commutable distance to Maidenhead and London??

Hello mums-

We are putting our flat on the market next week and will be moving out of SW London due to the lack of good state schools in the area and my need for nature and a bigger garden.

I am originally from Northern California, so love woods, water and all things green. DH is British and we're both outgoing and friendly so want a place with good sense of community, farmers markets, events, kid-friendly, low-crime, good pubs and a bit artsy.

DD is 2 years old, so looking for good state schools, both primary and secondary. We don't mind village or a bigger town as long as there are activities close by and lovely nature areas. I am not a lover of concrete ;-).

DH currently works in Maidenhead (for at least the next 2 years) and will need to commute to London often for work in under an hour either by car or rail.

We have a budget of around 400 - 450k for a 3-4 bedroom detached or semi house. We would like a large garden or be in a wooded or green area if a smaller garden. I definitely prefer a non-estate property with some privacy to our garden. I've so far come up with the following to go visit: Wallingford, Newbury, St Albans, Goring on Thames, Wolvercote, Wokingham, Yately, Caversham, Bucklebury, Hartley Wintney.

Am I looking in the right areas? Feel free to give me your honest opinions!!

I know I may be dreaming the impossible dream, but would love it if you could help.

Thank you so much!

The only piece of advice I can give you is check commute times into London before committing to an area because not everywhere has fast commuter trains. For example a train from Reading to London takes 33 minutes but if you take the train from wokingham it takes about 1hour and 10 minutes.
Wokingham is a lovely area to live in though!
If you are happy being thue other side of Maidenhead you can look at the areas around beaconsfield (Chalfont st giles, chalfont st peter, seer green and jordans) which are lovely, green and family friendly.

Marlow is also lovely though I am not sure about house prices in these areas at the moment.

Thanks girlonfire! I will add those to my list.

I have been looking at locrating.com and it's great for commute times and school ratings.

Unfortunately, it does not tell me if any of these areas are lovely to live in or should avoid like the plague!!

Just curious - have I posted this under the correct topic?
