How clean is clean?

So, we are moving house on Tuesday and I am trying to clean as I pack. I know there have been a couple of threads about if you should clean before you leave (I think yes, of course) - but how clean is enough? I was thinking as clean as I would leave a rental place (always got my full deposit back when I moved except once when we left the horrible oven as horrible as we found it). Basically, kitchen and bathroom as clean as possible. Floors mopped and carpets hovered. Skirting boards and window sills wiped. I feel bad not cleaning the windows but it's probably not going to happen.

I'm staying local to the move and don't want to new people to bad mouth us though anyone who knows us knows we're not that tidy anyway.

I reckon that it is clean enough if you think you could move in, cook a meal, have a bath and go to bed without having to clean up first. So not every single corner but clean kitchen, clean bathroom and a reasonable vacuum round.

as you've just done, by the sound of it.

Thanks - I'm just worried as I think I have lower standards than many. I'm also trying to pretend I can't see the crayon on the walls...

That's fine. I don't know how people manage a "deep clean" whilst also moving house, unless they pay someone to do it. I think a normal clean is enough. I cleaned as I packed and hovered each floor. I also dusted all my own furniture in the hope of starting as clean as possible in my next house.

I moved into a rented house which was left fairly clean. I cleaned all the kitchen cupboards really well before using them. I also cleaned the bathroom on our first day there. But the rest got done when I could find time and with the furniture already in, not ideal but there wasn't time for more. I also think you need to conserve some energy for your new house. Not much point in wearing yourself out to leave your old house prefect and then collapsing in your new house too tired to do anything.

hoovered, not hovered. Stupid auto correct.

crayon on the walls is an issue for a rental. New owners will redecorate anyway.

We're currently moving and I was planning on a 'proper' clean but buyer turned into a complete pita so as had no real time as dates etc kept changing and I've been atwork I've made do with hoover, skirting and kitchen tops and general wipe in bathroom.
But, regardless of how clean my new place is I would clean it top tbottom anyway so am hoping buyer is the same!
