Can you tell me.

How much it cost you to install?
Which company you had to do the work and whether you would recommend them?

Looking to get one this year and I know I have the money for the stove but not sure what installation costs are like and would like some RL examples before getting quotes so I know a reasonable figure when I see one. We have been told by our chimney sweep that we have a clay lined chimney which may mean we don't need it lined. Landlord has confirmed this.

I was like you, clay lined chimney so no lining needed. We got a local builder to build the hearth and fireplace(ours is a stove that is in the room, not in an alcove) and then a local firm came along and connected all the chimney pipes,it was about £400 two years ago.

We paid £1795 in April for:
Full 316 liner installation
Chimney backfilled
Cowl fitted
Register plate welded and pinned
Notice plate
Signing off fee
Labour
The old fireplace was an artificial red brick 80s monstrosity that had been built on to the original fireplace so he took that out and then built up the original (30s house so arched fireplace). He also laid the hearth and re-plastered the chimney breast.
He is based in Worcestershire and is HETAS registered. If you want his details, let me know and I shall post them on here.

We ended up paying almost £3000... Posh stove, chimney liner which wasn't planned initially but ended up being required when smoke test failed, creating new alcove, black granite hearth, everything done properly by HETAS registered company. Expensive but worth it (I think - it's been so hot we haven't actually used it yet!)

we paid £400 for fitting by local builder/roofer. Same quote as Blue Mantle on Old Kent Road but the builder was already doing other work for us. Also £400 to line chimney, and sort the fireplace out ie brick and render and some other stuff I can't remember. But the basic fitting was £400.

Stove bought online I think from stovesonline.

You mention landlord. Are you just renting?

mrsminiverscharlady · 28/07/2013 10:56

Installers don't have to be HETAS registered BUT you do need to get it signed off by building control at the council if they are not registered.

Great, thanks for all the replies.

LadyK thank, but we are miles from there!

Twooter yes we are renting, all been owed by the landlord, very long term let so we are paying but he will buy it from us once we leave if we decide not to take it with us.

We have an existing fire, which we use, but which is very narrow, we've found a fab small stove which will fit into the gap, just trying to assess additional costs...which don't need to include hearth or fireplace adjustment. (Hopefully) stove is £500 so I'm hoping we can do it for under 1k if we don't need a chimney liner!

All been OKed by the landlord, not owed! :)
