Has anyone got a freestanding swimming pool (look like giant paddling pools?) Are they worth the money?

Obviously the minute we purchase one the summer will be over but still...

We had one that was 15 feet long and 10 feet wide and 4 feet deep, oval shaped, we loved it. We bought a cover to put over at night to hold in some of the warmth it was like a big piece of bubble wrap it worked really well.
In winter we put inflated rubber tubes(big ones) and them tied a big cover over it. The in spring we took it all off and cleaned it and ran the filter for hours to get it ready to swim again.

Thanks for replying squinkiesrule. So you reckon your got your money's worth out of it? I think the children would love it but obviously our summer is so short! I'd rather they were in a pool than pestering to go on sodding minecraft though Grin

We have a massive pool which is really deep and when I recently set it up for the first time I forgot to take into account that my garden is on a slight slope .

Well , you can guess what happened when it was filled and the kids stood on the side of it , a giant 'tsunami' engulfed the garden and ran towards the house !

Marking my place I would like one for our new house when we move.

We didn't really get our moneys worth but that was due to Ds being too little, the grown ups enjoyed it though, we left it with the house when we sold. Dh had built a small deck with steps to get in and out and attached a short pool ladder to it. I got really sick of the cleaning (couple times a week) and doing the chemicals daily, and the pump had to run each day or the pool got really dirty and slimy on the bottom.

Jemma that is so funny. Grin

SIL had one at MIL's house.Cost an absolute fortune to fill, she 's on a water meter. DH was furious with SIL for running up large water bill, as she changed the water at least twice in the summer.

We had one for about 4 years, totally got our money's worth! Emptied it and put in she'd over winter. No water meter though!

We have a 10ft inflatable one that we put up for the summer. Totally worth it....we've used it every year for the past 5 years. We have a cover and a chlorine bobber which floats around when the pool is not in use, and that keeps the water clean. It costs about £15 to fill, and another £5-£10 to top up (lots of splashing). The adults go in too...great fun. And then it gets packed away at the end of the summer.
