Teal dining room - should I do it? Just about to go to homebase....

this type of colour . Shall I do it? I'm usually safe when it comes to colour but don't want to be boring. We have a huge built in unit in the dining room which is cream, another wall has a window (quite big) and another has an old victorian range cooker and door, so there's only one wall which will be completely teal. Would it be too dark? Should I do it or shall I play it safe?

Should add, it's a victorian house with high ish ceilings, farmhouse style chairs and table, not a huge room but decently sized for a dining room IMO

Now thinking more duck egg but might be too similar to the sage green we are going to paint kitchen

Gvictorian you say? Go for it, that teal is beautiful. I'd paint the bookshelves and baseboards etc a crisp white to offset it like the picture

Stunning - and I agree with HerRoyalNotness - offset with white coving, skirting or whatever. And maybe a Duck Egg type colour (that tones with the teal) on the ceiling - if you have coving so you would get the white contrast.

I think a Dining Room is a great room to go over the top with - it isn't a room you'll be sitting in for hours every night, when you might get bored with a strong scheme.

DH is saying duck egg, we're worried teal is too dark and will make it look small Confused . Our new kitchen is white tie F&B colour (creamy colour) and the wood work is white.......argh..... off in 5 mins......

Go with teal, duck egg is a bit insipid for a dining room.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 20/07/2013 15:12

Dark colours for dining room. We have sage green.

Loveleopardprint · 20/07/2013 15:12

Teal all the way!!

OK, went for it! Looking at it I'm not actually sure it is teal...but it looks teal-ish with the sample pot we used. It's this one . Hope it looks OK and thanks for the help, I changed my mind from duck egg thanks to this thread I'll blame you all if I don't like it Grin

The website link doesn't really look like how our sample did at all actually Confused it looks much more teal-y on the wall in our dining room.

Teal sounds lovely. I have seen it done as a feature wall irl and it was stunning. Sadly our house is too dark for it to work
