I'm after a spot of water advice!

I thought my boiler was up the spout, my ensuite shower kept going cold. But my taps have been spitting when turned on for weeks now as well.

Thankfully no, the (respectable) plumber assures me the boiler is fine, there isn't enough water pressure to fire it up.

I live at the end of a row of six 1880's Victorian cottages, whilst Saturday mornings have always been touch and go, with my washing machine on, having a shower and neighbours doing the same, but it only ever fluctuated very briefly and never went cold.

Apparently the stop cock in the street is broken, it has no tap. I have reported this to Thames water today, but it could take 30 working days to fix.

I have lived here 8 years, never had a problem before and my ensuite roof conversion shower has practically stopped working this week. No water. It has been fine for a year up till now.

Thank you for any advice you can offer, is this Thames Water's fault?

With love, a loyal fan!

If it's a new problem, I'd ask them to check for leaks. Has there been any new building work, near you?

Thanks for replying! Actually yes, a new house was built and I guess they moved in about the same time I noticed water problems. But I'm not sure they are supplied by the same stop cock, I thought it went right down my row, the new house is left at the end of a row of four.

Interesting thought!

I guess I need to look for another water man hole cover.

No obvious leaks near me, although some in the vicinity according to Thames Water report a leak website.

our house is the middle one of a row of 10 houses built between about 1880 & 1895 which had a common supply pipe when we moved in (running along the back of the row). The supply was pitiful most of the time & was often only a trickle at the weekend.

So we had our own private supply pipe installed from the main at the front. We had to pay for it but it wasn't a ridiculous amount & the difference in pressure was amazing! (excellent for showers Smile)

Ace Ponders. I so want to do that! Great advice.
