Loop pile or twist pile carpets?

I prefer the look of twist pile but they seem to flatten really easily and we ave a v narrow landing so I fear that the pile will look dreadful in the middle. People keep saying to go for a loop pile with a fleck. Am all for the fleck for hiding the muck but apparently they are a nightmare to clean if muck gets into the pile? The same carpet will also be up the stairs and in 3 of the bedrooms....anyone got any advice? Thanks.

I have 50oz 80/20 Wool/polypropylene Twist on my stairs & landing and upstairs bedrooms and it's still looking good after 8 years. And there are 6 of us in the house.

What kind of hoover do you have?

If it's an upright with a rotating brush, then you shouldn't have a loop pile as the brush will make it look tatty - these kind of vacuums are better for twist carperts as they 'beat' the fibres upright again.

A good twist shouldn't flatten easily, although a longer fibre length will be more prone to this. Choose a short pile length with a good density ( most samples tell you the weight, although a long pile that's quite spaced out may show the same weight but won't wear as well as a short pile that's packed closely).

we have a dyson which is shit so I definitely need a fleck in the carpet as I'm sure it doesn't pick up properly!
Are your twist carpets plain?
