Neighbour proposing further extension - questions

Just chatting to my neighbour at the rear when he revealed he is thinking of building up on top of his existing rear extension. He wasn't allowed to do it when the original extension was built so had to make do with a single storey. He now reckons he would be allowed to do it. I assume this is due to relaxation to planning permission rules.

His bedrooms already overlook my garden but if he goes ahead with this they will be very imposing and feel very close to the boundary. Is there any rule about how close to the boundary a 2 story extension can be?

Anyone out there know whether there is anything I can do if he decides to go ahead or am I likely to have to put up with it?

This is quite helpful.

He will need to apply for planning permission. you can oppose it. It might not be successful even if you don't oppose it.

Thanks for the link and reassurance.

I wondered if there was anything different about extending an extension so to speak.

Anyway, according to the portal it looks like he needs 7 metres to the boundary for a 2 story extension under permitted development (therefore without pp) and I doubt if he has this - bit hampered by the fact I'm in a bungalow so can't see into his garden.

I realise I can object if he needs pp - it was really the relaxation of rules on permitted development that made me a bit more concerned.

we've just had a second storey rejected on the basis of impact on neighbours amenity/overbearing so you may have a good case. by the way its 7 metres to the rear boundary, not the side.

Shame for you honesty but good for me if he does go for it.
