Bosh - every time, i have bosh everything - i always buy the basic model (too lazy to get up and see what model washing machine i have) which is reasonable price but not the cheapest of the cheap. I have had my bosh washing machine over ten years. Bosh dishwasher, about 8 years - the dishwasher has had to have one seal replaced which i did, a the parts are cheap on espares. The washing machine has nothing wrong with it, apart from my dog took the knob off and i couldnt fit it back the same way so it isn't what wash it says it is but it comes up on the digital display.

Definately bosh, no gimmicks, solid engineering.

LG are apparently very good but i think they tend more towards gimmicks.

dippymother · 09/07/2013 14:12

I have had both.

Loved my Bosch (basic model, only use a few programmes so perfectly good for me). I am now using an LG 9KG load, very posh, plays tunes, lots of buttons, various programmes and quiet but I would rather have my old Bosch any day.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 09/07/2013 18:28

My current bosch replaced my old bosch.
It does the job and is simple to use - just how i like it!

SuperiorCat · 09/07/2013 18:31

We have Bosch washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher - all basic models but v v good

makingdoo · 09/07/2013 18:36

DH says Bosch. It's his line of work and he reckons you can't get better.

flow4 · 09/07/2013 22:53

Your washing machine PLAYS TUNES, dippy?! Envy Grin

MmeLindor · 10/07/2013 00:18

Bosch. No question.

Or AEG/Siemens. They are the same.

dippymother · 10/07/2013 08:52

flow4 yes, it does, when being switched on and when the programme has finished!! Still preferred the simple basic Bosch though!

I bought a Bosch washing machine after a lot of research into the quietest models (first floor flat and downstairs always complaining about the noise) but after just less than two years Bosch are having to replace it for me because of early bearings failure. I don't really know what that means but basically it is not quiet at all and I feel like I paid a lot of money for a machine that's no better than my old cheaper one. I hope the replacement will be better as they have discontinued the model I bought.

Luckily it is still in guarantee and I will say the service I have had in sending someone out to look at it and organising the replacement has been faultless.

What did you prefer about your Bosch to your Lg dippymother? Anyone have a newer Bosch model?

My Bosch had a 60 wash which lasted around 1 hour 20 mins. The equivalent on LG is 2 hours and I find this slightly annoying. There is no quicker 60 wash on the LG. There are lots of different washes on the LG but apart from the quick wash (30 mins) and the delicate fabric one at 40 (56 minutes), all the other programmes are lengthy. Mind you, I might be biaised as my DP and I bought a joint house - I was "convinced" to leave the Bosch behind as it was 6 years old and, although a slot in, went with the 6 year old kitchen (everything Bosch). His LG was only 2 years old and with the bigger drum (9kg as opposed to 6kg), he thought I would love it. Maybe I will one day, but so far the only positive is the fact that I've washed a duvet in it!

Does your washing machine not have a speed perfect button dippymother?

OP posts:
dippymother · 10/07/2013 19:32

I don't have instructions and have no idea what a speed perfect button is unfortunately Hmm

We have just moved into a house having left my beloved 10 year old Bosch behind. Now have a Zanussi and it is bloody awful, no quick wash etc - I am in deep trouble for leaving our Bosch behind tothe people who fleeced us for our houseour buyers - in all that time the only problem we ever had was with a pump which had to be replaced. Also had a Bosch dishwasher, 16 years old and bomb proof. There really is no contest. :)

camtt · 10/07/2013 22:25

I have a Bosch vario excel 8 - had previously had a basic machine (Whirlpool maybe), which lasted 10 years. I thought since now we were a family of 5 I would get a decent machine this time. After 1 year the machine was replaced due to early bearing failure. After a further 10 months the new machine also had early bearing failure. This time repaired not replaced. As soon as the work was done the slats inside the drum started coming off during the wash cycle (the whole drum slats etc had been replaced as it came as a single part). When I called to arrange a further visit the call centre operator assured me that this was a separate fault that I would have to pay again for. Luckily it was still (just) in guarantee but I would otherwise have had to argue it with them even though the engineer who came said it was all part of the same fault. So I lost faith in the customer service too. I was also annoyed when they sent me a letter reminding me that I had failed to take out their extended warranty and now my warranty had expired - a good 3 weeks before it actually had expired. So, I've yet to have more than a year's uninterrupted service out of my relatively expensive Bosch washing machine and next time I will go for something more basic, in a range other than Bosch

Beamur · 10/07/2013 22:27

My last washing machine & tumble dryers were both Bosch - no complaint about either.
My dishwasher is too - works fine, but not as well made as the older Bosch it replaced.

nophone · 10/07/2013 22:34

How about AEG? We bought an AEG dishwasher and washing machine 18 years ago and they're still going strong. Only issue has been the washer moter needing new bushes.

napkin · 11/07/2013 08:56

Has anyone got any recent models? Older models was all made better years ago and used more water so although the brand might of been really good then, the machines are not made as well now. Thanks for all your advice though.

Oh no camtt, that sounds familiar and I think ours is vario excel 8 too, do you know what model your replacement is? I'd like to compare to see if its the same one they are offering me?

camtt · 11/07/2013 19:27

my vario excel 8 is the replacement, it was previously the vario excel 7 I think. Of course, they don't extend the warranty, so you still have the two years from when you bought the original (and then if you have a problem your model number doesn't match your warranty date so the website can't deal with it). The engineer said he thought I'd been unlucky and he's not had many call outs to vario 8s - this didn't make me feel a lot better about it!
