Curved window seat in kitchen - help re cushion please!

Hi everyone,

We are having a curved window seat built at the moment in our kitchen, and have a new round dining table for it. I need to get a base cushion made for it, but am struggling with what type of fabric to go for. It needs to be able to cope with young children dropping food on it!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a hard-wearing but comfy fabric? Am considering leather, but the window area gets a lot of sun and am conscious of legs sticking to leather.

I also have no clue where to go to get this cushion made!

All suggestions very gratefully received.

Try a slightly treated cotton upholstery fabric, and make sure it's zip off for washing! You can scotch guard it as well, which will make washing off stains easier. I would go to a foam shop with a paper template and get the inner cut out and then make the cushion myself, but any upholstery shop should be able to do it for you.

Thanks MummytoMog. Yes, I think cotton would be most comfortable. Will have a look around. Did consider attempting to make it myself, but my sewing skills are basic at best!

Designer's Guild do a fabric called mezzola which is sort of like a faux suede and it washes brilliantly , or you can just sponge off marks . It is really soft to feel but hardwearing . I've had it on a sofa before now. Comes in lots of colours
(I do not work for DG btw - just think it is a fab fabric)

Ooh, thanks, that sounds very interesting actually. Will check it out.

I would also suggest mock suede which is usually polyester mix.
It should be stain treated but is practical. Any fabric shop will have lots of options and it is not expensive.
I would go for removable covers and have two sets made for when is being cleaned/washed.
Lovely idea btw, I wanted to do this but we didn't quite have enough space.

I have a window seat in our kitchen but not curved or used for dining as yours is. I just got a local upholsterer to make a cushion for it in a scotchgarded kind of ridged velvetty stuff

A great help, everyone. Thank you all. I really like the sound of a mock suede. Great range of colours in the Mezzola from Designers Guild.
Getting two sets is a very good idea too, if it doesn't work out too pricey.
