Cleaning new house before removals men start to move things in?

Hi all

I am SO confused about how this will work.

DD has many allergies including to pets and lts of everyday foods. My Sister will be looking after both my dc (5 and 3) on the day we complete, but I really can't work out how I can clean the new house before the removals people start moving things in.

I asked a removals company if they would move us in the next day. They said they could do that but it would cost almost the same again, so basically doubling their charges which we can't do.

I really want to Hoover everywhere and clean floors and kitchen cupboards but can't figure out how that will work with boxes and furniture being moved in at the same time.

I know I sound really dim, but my brain is just refusing to figure this out, so was wondering if anyone has any advice, please.

Just fr info, we haven't exchanged yet, but are hoping to complete by the end of July.

Many thanks in advance.

I like backforgood's suggestion. I'd be pleased if you asked if you could send a cleaner in day before as it would save me doing it especially if you explained about your son.

I was up half the night cleaning when I sold my last house because as heavy furniture moves the dust is suddenly set free. Hmm

I'm not sure how arranging a cleaner to go there before the previous owners have moved out would help. If the previous owners are there til the day of completion, the house will be full of their furniture and boxes. When I moved, I just cleaned as much as possible whilst packing, moving furniture that wasn't usually moved and cleaning behind it.

My removers moved all the furniture and boxes from downstairs into the van, then asked me to check if there was anything left, then they did the whole of upstairs, then the garage. I didn't ask them to do it that way, it's just how they did it. So I wonder if your removers would be willing to pack one floor of your house first and the other second, then when you're moving in they could move in the stuff for upstairs whilst you or someone else clean downstairs, so at least one half of the house would get cleaned? It's very quick when you're hoovering an empty room. Or would it be possible to leave a room empty when moving in, perhaps your ds's bedroom, so that you can make one room 'safe'.

I am fairly organised when it comes to packing and moving but have always found the actual day to be totally chaotic. We always have boxes piled high so would be impossible to clean properly until they are out of the way.
After our last move, having cleaned old house thorougly and finding new place filthy, I would try and arrange any future moves to be done over 2 days. It would be far easier to clean during the afternoon and evening then have removal van turn up early next morning when you are refreshed. Not that I ever plan to do this again, ever....

Thanks again everyone.

tulips, I was hoping we could do over two days, but the removals company said they would have to charge almost the same as the cost of the removal, as we would be tying up one of their trucks for 2days. It would just be too expensive.

I'm hoping once we exchange, I'll be able to sort something with whichever removals company we use. I haven't found anyone locally who does removals plus cleaning.

Some removals offer clean service after they've packed up. Is it worth asking the sellers removals co to do the clean and then you can pay them instead of the seller?
