Move? Improve? Anyone glad to have improved - or does it just put off the inevitable

Loved our house when we moved in - but we only had one new born - 15 years later we now have 4 kids and it really needs a refresh and a layout rework (tho not extending). Worried that if we stay and fiddle about hemorrhaging cash with a rework and refresh - it might not still not feel right and we might move anyway.....but the thought of moving feels like such hard work.

Can't help as I love moving house! It is hard work moving, but if you improve, you may just end up spending a lot and not adding much value. See if what you want to do will add value, how much value and how much it would be worth.

FWIW we did an extension and a new bathroom a couple of years and it was really hideous living here. It would have been much, much easier to move house!

We did a loft conversion 18 months ago but now decided to move anyway. We should have just moved 18 months ago!

Look at how much it would actually cost to move as a starting point...

We extended our 3 bed to a 4 bed and added a big open plan kitchen / family room / dining room. We are still here 3 yrs later! We really love what we did and there is no way we could get the same amount of space within our budget by moving. I think we will still outgrow the house in a couple of years, but it was definitely worth doing the extension.

I have thought of it long and hard and decided to move rather than improve. We could change the layout in our current 2 bed to 3 bed without extending, but the house would lose its appeal for convenience. Another major factor is that I hate dealing with builders - I don't have time to take days off work to supervise them, I feel they always take advantage of me being a woman, there is always something that goes wrong and expensive. Much easier to move!
