Has anyone had original stained glass incorporated into a new door?

Hi there,

We have a 1920s house that still has some of its original coloured leaded windows, including the front door. Unfortunately the door itself is twisted and very draughty and we've decided that it really needs replacing with a modern door set that would be more secure and draught free.

We would really like to have the glass that is in the existing door put into a new one but have been unable to find out who might do this - we've found glass companies and door companies but none that seem to do both. Can anyone recommend anywhere that might be able to do this?

Thank you

I'm having the opposite done - new stained glass in an original front door. The guy is based in Leicester but he does travel.

Hi CuddyMum, thanks for that. Would you PM me the contact details? We're in the north west, but it might be worth a shot.

I'd expect a good joiner to be able to do this. But if nec, can you get someone to build and fit you an unglazed door, measuring the panel you want to insert very carefully and leaving space for it, then get a glazer to re-install the old glass in the new door...?

The contact details are:-

www.stainedglassleicester.co.uk/

Equally you could choose a new door and have the design replicated.

It's took me a while to figure out what to do with ours. At the moment I have a joiner stripping the door and cutting out the panels in readiness for the new stained glass.

As flow4 said, perhaps a joiner is the best place to start.

Thanks CuddyMum and Flow4, I'll give that a go.
