Someone viewing our house tomorrow and not on market yet - what one thing do I need to do?

Not on market yet as need to get garden sorted (big stuff eg trees cut back), plus various other bits and bobs. But estate agent sending someone round tomorrow anyway. I have approx 1.5 hours while DH out with the DCs to sort the house out - what one thing do you recommend I do?

I plan on doing the following:

  • cut grass
  • cut back the brambles that might spear them if they venture down the side entrance
  • vaccuum
  • tidy up
  • pack away the clutter in the kitchen to hide the fact we don't have enough cupboard space

I don't think I have time for much else!

Make the bathroom look clean and tidy

Open the windows to get some fresh air in

Clear up piles of clothes under the duvet!

If you manage all that by tomorrow, well done. I think the clean and declutter things matter and clean the bathrooms if you have any energy or time left. Good luck

Yes, I second that comment about fresh air. Really important.

Put anything you want to hide in the car - I used t out baskets of ironing there as we didn't have a utility room, usually they sat I nthe lounge. Ditto anything else there was no room for in the cupboards.

open all the windows first thing in the morning air the place out, shut before they arrive if there is any road noise to worry about,

make sure all blinds and curtains are open as wide as possible, you need as much light as possible, normally a window wash in and out is essential, and makes a huge difference.

If you have a car, fill that boot with any excess stuff,

Your estate agent is a twonk, he/she should know better, he/she should tell you someone is waiting to see it, and tell them he will get them first through the door when it goes on the market, jumping the gun, can sometimes lose a buyer.

Do your best, that's all you can do.

And log off mumsnet. Focus.

What they all said +

Check light switches and doors for dirty hand marks.

Wipe water marks from inside bath/washbasin/shower screen with towel.

Flush toilet.

No animal litter trays in sight.

Thanks all. Had the windows wide open this morning and the tip about putting things in the car was great - I was wondering where my decluttered stuff was going to go!

Managed to get the house reasonably respectable. Highlights of my morning included spilling a tin of hot chocolate all over the kitchen, and throwing the nursery bags to the bottom of the stairs forgetting the 2 day old beaker of milk that was in there..only noticing the pool of sour milk on the carpet 5 mins later...

Anyway viewers been and gone. I don't think the agent is being a twonk by the way, we aren't signed with him yet, he is trying to show us how amazing he is at getting people in the door, as well as potentially keeping the viewers' chain moving. Houses are selling quickly round here at the moment.

have you had any feedback? imagine if they went for it! Grin

MonkeysTypewriter · 29/06/2013 22:07

ha ha poo I had a little dream that that might be the case... no feedback yet, I don't think they will be making an offer, they didn't nose enough (or maybe they are more polite than me??). Their house isn't under offer yet and I suspect they were working out what kind of house they want next.

ah well. at least you are off the starting blocks.
I know what you mean about nosing. I have to look in every cupboard if I like the property. Grin
