Is it worth the extra money for FB paint?

Bump before I spend an unnecessary fortune!

I haven't been tempted by any of the F & B colours yet, even though I live in a Victorian house.

However, it is one of the most discussed topics on Mumsnet (seriously!) so why not do an Advanced Search where you will find all sorts of extremely long threads where people discuss the nuances of the various shades in unbelievable detail. Amazing but true.

PigletJohn · 23/06/2013 09:27

No, of course not.

HissyCat · 23/06/2013 10:10

Well, for me personally, yes.

I love the super matt finish, and personally I found it a dream to work with. Plus their colours are limited, which for me is a huge plus point- with dulux et al I would literally spend hundreds on testers and drive myself crazy with choices... F&b you get to 'know' the colours and know what does and doesn't work.

PigletJohn · 23/06/2013 17:20

If you ask a bunch of teens about trainers, they will come up with hundreds of reasons why the fashionable brands are better than unfashionable ones.

Is you ask a bunch of young men why a flashy car is better than a plain one, the same.

If you ask a bunch of Snetters about fashionable paint....

ggirl · 23/06/2013 17:21

little greene co. paint is better

EleanorFarjeon · 23/06/2013 19:44

I like F&B, but I know plenty of people don't. I think you get a certain 'look' & finish with their paints which is hard to achieve with others.

Alwayscheerful · 23/06/2013 19:47

Yes.

SvetlanaKirilenko · 23/06/2013 21:33

Yes, and it doesn't give me a headache when I'm using it. Worth every penny.

SizzleSazz · 23/06/2013 21:36

No, marks too easily with small dc Sad

Friend likes little Greene but never used it personally

IrisScentedCandle · 23/06/2013 22:11

even dulux is expensive. so, how much more is a litre of f&b than a litre of crown for example?

PigletJohn · 23/06/2013 23:33

what use would a litre be?

cost up 15 litres.

CointreauVersial · 23/06/2013 23:38

Would be a waste of money in this large, modern house.

yummymumtobe · 23/06/2013 23:46

It depends what look you're going for. If you want very specific shades of blue/green/grey then yes. I doubt the quality is any better, it's all about the colours. Our dd's room is Middleton Pink - lovely soft sophisticated pink colour - not at all candy or princess pink!

SinisterSal · 23/06/2013 23:50

No idea. i can never tell. A nice colour is a nice colour as far as I can see - am prepared to be told I'm missing something though.

IrisScentedCandle · 24/06/2013 14:02

Well, I don't think I'd need 15 litres to paint two rows of cupboards. 6 foot long and 3 and a half foot tall each of them. Think four litres would be more than enough for a second coat.

I saw that middleton pink,it's lovely and dulux do a lovely shade that is almost identical. I will remember what it's called in a second......

IrisScentedCandle · 24/06/2013 14:05

bongo jazz 4 and Caribbean dawn 3. both lovely dusty shades of pink.

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/06/2013 14:06

IMO it is worth the money. We have it all through our house and it has worn well even with 2 messy DS's

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 24/06/2013 14:14

all depends if you like the finish
i find it marks too easily, and doesn't wash
our entire house was F&B'ed when we moved in, and I am slowly correcting it to stuff more suited to young DC.
