yes and it is hard work. You need several sizes and shapes of scraper. A hot air gun to soften it without burning. You can get a protective mask from Screwfix or others, it may need to be a rubber one like a gas mask. Wear gloves and long sleeves because you will get molten paint on you. Shower and wash hair afterwards as there is a risk of lead residue.
You will need to sand it afterwards.
I strongly recommend Aluminium Wood Primer after you have stripped and sanded it, before painting. It is very durable and also seals knots and sap. It is grey, not silver.
I'd also recommend fitting three lift-off hinges. Then you can easily take it down to work on and re-hang with ease. Stainless hinges will look good if you have chrome door furniture, if not, PVD brass on stainless is best. A skilled joiner can hang a door far better and more quickly than a DIYer or handyman.
The top and bottom of a door are most in need of protection, and are most often neglected.
Get a 5-lever BS deadlock fitted, and a BS nightlatch as well if you can afford it. The letterbox should be well away from the locks as it is possible to reach through with a simple home-made tool and turn knobs or keys.
