Replacing bathroom, where do I start? How much?

Not sure who to call upon to replace the bathroom in a small cottage I have inherited? It will be rented out so doesn't need to be fancy, I want the bath taken out and replaced with a shower with some wet wall (?). Is this a job for a plumber? How much should it cost to have this done?

we got quotes from two local plumbers. We sourced all the stuff ourselves, found ultra finishing (available through plumbers merchants) were v good for fitted furniture, vanity, taps etc and got bath from homebase, along with mixer shower and plain white tiles. Used easipanel for tongue and groove on the non tiled walls, laminate on floor. Great sliding storage bath panel. Whole lot including fitting was approx £1.8k (we are not in south east)

If you're renting the property without a bath, it wont appeal to families. How about replacing the bath with a P or T shaped bath with integral shower. They're fab, give a large area to shower in and the shower screens dont leak as they're made to measure. Could be done for £500 inc fitting.

Thanks for replies, its not a cottage suitable for families so it really doesn't need a bath.... Anyone else have any cost ideas? What is the cheapest I could have it done?

A word of caution: the "cheapest" shower will become v expensive if it leaks in a year or two and damages your ceilings! It's false economy to get uber-cheap shower cubicles for this reason. I'd suggest sourcing yourself to save money, but paying a little more for eg a Lakes shower enclosure and a stone resin tray...

I think you might limit the rental market if you haven't got a bath, as long as it is a decent powerful shower I don't think a shower over the bath is a deal breaker for most people, but without a bath some would be put off as there wouldn't be anywhere for a relaxing soak...

Thanks for advice but it's not actually gong to be a rental property on the open market... It will be for staff so don't want to spend a fortune etc..

OK, so no bath! Cheapest you could hope to get it replaced with a decent shower and well sealing enclosure, well tiled and sealed walls/floor is probably £2.5k

thanks sunnyshores I will probably have to wait til next year as im having a new kitchen installed and the whole place rewired at the moment and have already blown my repairs budget!
