What do you think of this house...?

I would love to get your opinion on this house:
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-26699154.html?premiumA=true

We think we like the house...but we're not exactly rushing to put an offer in so we don't know if that's a sign...? We think that not knowing the area is clouding our judgement, and any objective thoughts/opinion are badly needed! (And if anyone knows the area - what do you think?)

We're a family of three (ds is 21mo) which will potentially expand to four in the next couple of years, and we're looking for somewhere for 5-10yrs as we have moved a LOT in the past.

Like it. Looks practical and well cared for. I can't be doing with weirdy wallpaper but that's easily fixed if you feel likewise! But... I wonder if it might be worth looking for somewhere less 'done up' so that you can add value? Perhaps you'd get a bigger back garden too. Posh front garden seems to me a lot of effort for not much usage! (am lazy)

Vivacia · 16/06/2013 19:35

I think it looks lovely and I like the access from the house to the garden. My note of caution was that the kitchen seemed a bit tight.

poocatcherchampion · 16/06/2013 19:39

looks nice, but if you are not worried that someone else will snap it up then I reckon it is not the one for you. we saw plenty of nice places but it didn't mean they were the ones for us..

GemmaTeller · 16/06/2013 19:52

It looks well kept but the kitchen looks small, not many cupboards and doesn't seem to be any wall cupboards.

Looking on streetview the actual road itself looks nice/nice area.

lalalonglegs · 16/06/2013 20:00

Bedroom 3 looks very small if you are planning to have more children (the hipped roof will make it harder to make a decent loft conversion without building the gable end up). I hate conservatories so wouldn't be interested in buying somewhere that had one especially if passing through it was the only way to get into the garden. I'd be tempted to build out where the conservatory is and knock the kitchen and dining room together but, since it is all in very good decorative order, you will probably be paying a premium for the house and so bashing it about isn't the right thing to do.

lalalonglegs · 16/06/2013 20:01

The house at the rear of the garden (visible in interior shots, carefully cropped out of exterior ones) seems to be very close and have windows looking into your garden too.

EstoyAqui · 16/06/2013 20:04

Personally I think it looks quite small, especially for a family of 5 potentially 6.

Aethelfleda · 16/06/2013 20:10

It's nice enough but doesn't really grab me. That third bedroom will be annoyingly small as the child in it grows (been there, done cabin bed, ended up moving!)
Plus the galley kitchen is a real Marmite feature. Some people are OK with them but that would be a deal breaker for a lot of buyers, so selling it on may be impacted.

Delayingtactic · 16/06/2013 20:10

It's nice but the kitchen is small. I think if you were looking to stay 5 yrs it'd be fine as by then the youngest child would only be a toddler so the small 3rd bedroom wouldn't be too bad. 10 years would be too long.

orangepudding · 16/06/2013 20:12

The kitchen looks very small, would put me off.

Sunnyshores · 16/06/2013 20:15

I'd be very cautious about buying something that is so well finished and presumably top of its potential price range. I'd rather have something less done, with a bigger kitchen and more lawn for children to play.

Northernlurker · 16/06/2013 20:19

In that style of house the kitchen is usually tiny unless it's been extended. It's a nice house but you will outgrow it and the garden is VERY overlooked. Can you link something else you've looked at though for comparison?

QuintessentialOldDear · 16/06/2013 20:22

I like it. Thumbs up!
We have a similar layout upstairs. The oldest has grabbed the smallest bedroom with glee at his "small cosy den".

Would you be able to extend into the loft?

MarthasHarbour · 16/06/2013 20:24

It very much reminds me of our last house, check out the storage as the lack of it really bothered us, and we have one DS, any more DC's would have been a squeeze for us, this is why we moved. The 3rd bedroom was a study for us and would have done as a nursery but not a bedroom.

Also the kitchen would be too tight for us, we had a galley kitchen in our old house and it drove us round the bend - we couldnt have two of us in there cooking as we had to squeeze past eachother.

Sorry i am sounding all negative! On the plus side it is beautifully presented and wouldnt need any work doing. I dont think it is small per se but would be a squeeze if you wanted more DCs

HTH

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 16/06/2013 20:32

I love the front door if that helps :-D kitchen could be a bit on the small side if you want to do baking etc with dc. But I personally like large kitchen/breakfast rooms (not that I have one)

Arisbottle · 16/06/2013 20:34

It is a nice house, but the kitchen would put me off.

Misty9 · 16/06/2013 20:56

Wow! Thanks everyone.

The kitchen is definitely not what I would want long term, but we could easily knock the conservatory down and extend out to create an L shaped kitchen/breakfast room with doors onto the garden.

It is overlooked, yes. Caveat being that apparently the owners only live there a couple of times a year. But that mightn't always be the case.

We only have one dc so far! And def not planning more than two... But that third bedroom is quite small. Would also have to knock down old garage and build office in garden for dh (works from home).

It being done is slightly putting me off too, though dh isn't keen on more of a project.

For comparison, we loved this www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-26817342.html?premiumA=true but our offers were rejected and we didn't want to go higher than £258,000 mind you, we're so known for going round in circles that may change
This one was also completely done though, and that and the tiny bathroom were the major negatives for me...

Argh! Dh now says he doesn't know about the area..but our preferred area is so studenty and we could only afford a terrace..with no parking and tiny kitchen. Stressful :(

Norwich is one of my favourite places. A pleasure to live there!

Karbea · 16/06/2013 21:11

The first house is better. If you wanted to you could probably extend into the space where the garage doors are allowing you to make a bigger kitchen and utility or study and upstairs extend bed 3 over to the right and put a smaller room behind it.

The other house is the wrong way round to do this.

The first house is prettier IMO too.

KatyDid02 · 16/06/2013 21:12

It looks lovely but the garden is way too overlooked IMO, and it's small for a family of 5. Plus it's on a hill (how many of those are their in Norwich?!) which I think is also a busy ish road so no good for playing out?
