DRAINS WIFF A BIT!

The outlet pipe from my washer runs from the garage under the kitchen floor and has been smelly for weeks. It smells more stale and damp than anything. Any ideas of how to rid the wiff is gratefully received :)

I had something similar with a bathroom pipe that was shared between a sink and a bidet. Difference being that both the sink and the bidet were blocked. The pipe runs down a downstairs bedroom wall and the bedroom was smelling. I couldn't clear the block so eventually called in dynorod who cleared the pipe. A long winded way of saying that maybe you have aslight blockage in the pipe.

We cleared our own drains recently (doubt you want the details). Part of it involved a pressure-washer.

where is the smell coming from? A yard gulley? A standpipe? A plughole? The washer?

Pipes and hoses do not smell damp unless they leak.

Thanks everyone. PJ the smell comes from the pipe that houses the outlet pipe from the washer. Looking at it now, it seems that it would be this pipe thats the problem. It runs through the garage / kitchen wall, under the floor of the kitchen and then out through an exterior wall. It must be leaking under the floor then :( How on earth do I tackle that?...arghhh.

You could try to clear the blockage (if there is one) from downstream.
I wonder if you could...Tape up the end of the pipe in the house (trust me, smells, yuck). and try a pressure hose from one of your drainage access points outside, aimed up stream. DH ended up tying a long piece of flexible but stiff aluminium siding to the garden hose & poking around up there with the hose on full flow. Not sure a leak would cause a smell, but a blockage easily could.
