Would you start packing?

I don't know what to do - the removal man has just dropped off all the boxes and crates but I really don't know whether the sale is going to go through and whether its worth starting to pack. We could either be completing on Thursday or not at all!

We are in a 4 house chain, v v v v long story but we are waiting on our buyers lenders (Halifax) to rubber stamp an idenmity insurance issue, something I was told that would take 48hrs but that was 10 days ago. The people we are buying off it a total dick and today has demanded completion on Thursday.

We have been told the lender would rubber stamp the issue by end of day Friday, then end of day Monday and now rumour has it end of day Wednesday. Which means it may all fall through on Thursday or we will be moving.

I have stopped believing Halifax are going to rubber stamp anything now and just think it is all going to fall through.

I really feel like crying.

What would you do - continue in vain optimism and tempt fate by packing, or wait and see. We have two bedroom flat and toddler (but toddler has been packed off to the GPs).

oh, I'm far too superstitious. I could never tempt fate like by packing :)

I would go for the start packing! there is usually horrid tense bit but it should work out. if not you will be getting ready for the next and possibly shorter chain.the person you are buying off may pull out but unless he has a cash buyer lined up he will still need to sell to someone. stay calm, what will be will be and worrying won't change it!!

We're completing in 6 weeks and I'm packing already.
Bigger house though. I'm also trying to clear the accumulated crap as I go along.
Just never realised how many boxes it would take.
Our chain in pretty short & stable though so it doesn't feel too much of a risk.
I started with the non essentials such as boxing up the loft/ spare room.

Have you actually exchanged already?

nohalfmeasures · 10/06/2013 23:37

Get the removal men to do it on the day. It doesn't cost much more (although it has been a while since we moved) . If anything gets broken or damaged in the move, and you've packed it yourself, they will just blame it on your poor packing technique.
I would have a declutter tho...

rowtunda · 11/06/2013 07:46

No not exchanged - looks like if we are going to exchange it may even be on the day.

Oh and I'm 5.5 months pregnant! I really hope stress doesn't transfer to bumps.

If I was you I would say I wanted a week between exchange and completion (hardly anyone exchanges and completes on the same day as it is too stressful!) then you have a week to pack once you really know.
