What colour walls with a green sofa?

I have bought two John Lewis Barbican sofas in green for my living room - www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-barbican-large-sofa-cossette-light-leg/p409457 The colour is slightly darker than in the picture but you get an idea. What is the best colour for the walls? The room is quite large, in a Victorian house -so high ceilings, picture rail, etc. It is a south-facing room and gets lots of light through its bay window. We have stripped floorboards and all the woodwork is white.

I quite fancy the idea of dusty pink walls (not a girly pink but a darker shade of pink), but will the colour be too warm for the room's position? The hallway is painted light green, if that helps.

Dusty pink is quite hard to pull off and I don't think it goes with this sofa colour.
I would be going for a pale warm Grey or a stone colour. Other options would be to go much darker than the sofa. Look at the colour tones of the cushions they have used in the photo.

Thank you! I agree pink is a tricky colour to get right. It can look great with dark, muted green, but that's not the shade of this sofa, i guess. I hadn't thought about grew but i think its a great idea! What shade of grey would you recommend?

I don't think pink would work with this shade of green. Grey would work

My first thought was "pink"! As long as its a warm shade you'll be fine (bit like the colours in the cushion, but lighter). Really lovely :)

I think a warm pink might be too bright, Gingersnap88, considering the living room is so sunny. I was thinking of a dark, cool pink, but I am a bit nervous as it is easy to get pink wrong. I think grey is a good option, actually - although my husband thinks grey is depressing.

Can anybody recommend a nice shade of grey that is warm and not "depressing", please?

You could try one 'feature' wall of the pink, then the rest of the walls in Dulux Egyptian cotton (a very pale grey/beige, really lovely, have used it in our hallway)?

We have a Victorian house with green sofas in the living room - again, really bright room due to high ceilings & massive bay window, plus stripped floor boards. But our sofas are a darker green so not quite the same green as the one's you've bought (although I DO like your choice, am desperate to replace our sofas but waiting til kids are out of the snot wiping / jammy fingers phase til we bother!). Our walls are painted in cornish clay - a dulux heritage range paint (not sure if it exists anymore) which is a chalky matt paint in a cream colour, but has very subtle hints of green brought out of it by the colour of the sofas. We also have roman blinds with bright pink flowers on them, so I totally agree with your combination of green / pink, and I do think grey would work really well with it too.

Farrow and ball might be a good bet for finding the right grey - my sister swears by it, but only in very light rooms as she reckons FB paint can absorb light and darken rooms if used in the wrong place. There are some lovely greys on their colour chart.

Thanks, Icravecheese. I feel your pain re the kids stage - I am in exactly the same boat with three kids under 5. The thing with me is, I am in denial. I do not want to think about what the kids will do to the sofas. I just want to concentrate on the pleasant thought of having some beautiful, grown-up sofas in the living room. But I digress.

Back to the walls - yes, I love Dulux Heritage range, I will have a look at their chart if I can find it. I might also pop to the local F&B shop with a sofa fabric sample, to seek their advice. Will keep you posted!

We have almost exactly the same room and colour schemes, although our sofas are also a slightly darker green. We've painted the walls F&B Shaded White which was an accident (thought we were using a different colour) but such an happy accident. It's gorgeous - cool, warm, grey, green, cream all at once.

HazzaB, that's interesting. But will a green-based grey work with green sofas? Green on green - isn't that overkill?
