We're looking to buy in around Cambridge, looking at rightmove you get so much more for your money in St Ives, we're wondering about looking up there. What is the town like? How are the schools? We'll need primary initally, but hopefully this will be a forever move.

I have also seen a house I like in Trumpington, so advice on primary schools there would also be good. It seems like a new one has opened. I work in Cambridge and am likely to stay there, DH works at the Science Park now, but may move, don't know where to.

Hi, I grew up near St Ives, but went to school in Cambridge. As you work in Cambridge, I would say that the drive along the A14 is terrible in the rush hour!

can get guided bus from St Ives both to science park and to central cambridge - you could try the Cambridge Mumsnet local - and I think there was a comment about the schools in trumpington in a recent thread there

St Ives is lovely, very pretty, but it is a SMALL town so no cinema, and not much in the way of "big" shops. Lots of other things to do though. As someone has already pointed out, the A14 is NOT fun in the mornings but the Guided Bus is brilliant, if you live near the St Ives end and work near a GB stop at the Cambridge end (Science Park is on the GB route I think). Don't know much about primary schools there but St Ivo is a very good secondary. Personally, I would much rather live in St ives than Trumpington, which I think is a "non" place in the sense of little in the way of community etc but it depends how long you're prepared to spend commuting.

How long does the guided bus take to the science park? We had an agent send details for a house here but I discounted it due to A14... Was amazing though so now I'm wondering. Grin

It's about 20 mins to get to the Science Park from St Ives, using the Guided Bus.

great place to live, all my children went to local schools, did very well there, and are now a doctor, a teacher, and an engineer. Good market twice a week, farmers market every few weekends, cinemas in huntingdon, about 4 miles away, lots to do in terms of sports, both indoor and outdoor, air/army cadets, guides, brownies, scouts, various adult classes all available. Guided bus to cambridge about 45 mins, can also get direct to addenbrookes hospital and hinchingbrooke hospital.Good GP surgeries, and house prices are reasonable. As said, no big shops, but not a problem with cambridge so accesible. Sadly just moved away now due to work, many happy memories though.

That's interesting - thanks Stranger Smile

Well we went to visit a house in St Ives today, house was lovely, St Ives seems like a nice town, could be a nice place to live, we're just still not convinced we can do the journey down the A14 every day. So thinking about it.
