Substation - WWYD?

We have found a house that we absolutely love. The only snag is a tiny fenced off bit of land next to the garden that is owned by the power network. I think there used to be a substation there but it is now empty. However, I've spoken to the power network and they won't consider selling it to us. It's such a populated area that they want to hang onto it in case they ever need to put a substation there.

Buying the house would be a bad idea, wouldn't it? Gah...

Without seeing the house, my first instinct is to say YIKES! no! but i totally understand how it might be a really difficult decision if it's the best house you can get for your money.

I would have to say no though. Who knows what they could build on your doorstep/. it could be ugly or worse - affect your health?

I know, I know. I have answered my own question. Knowing my luck, they'd put a substation in just before we came to sell it and we'd never get rid of it...

It is beautiful though. Victorian. High ceilings. Amazing kitchen. Sigh...

oh dear........ I feel your pain because what I want, is outside of my budget. And if I had the chance, the one and only chance to get a spacious Victorian house with a beautiful kitchen....... I'd waver too. But seriously, my health is more important. Luckily I'm a kind of pescaratian yoga working out madly non-smoking moderate drinker type so although it would make me wince to lose the house in the end I just couldn't risk my health and my children's health like that. But then some people would say 'ah sure they mightn't build anything til the kids are grown up and I've one foot in the grave anyway'.

linky to house :-|

I would not. If there was ever to be a new substation, the hum would be very annoying. I disregarded one house with the substation at the back of the garden as soon as I opened garden doors.
