Thinking of moving to Grantham

Hi - we are thinking of relocating from London to Grantham and have seen a few lovely houses that we would like to do 2nd viewings on but aren't that familiar with the area to know what the schools are like, what roads to avoid, if the town centre is improving as there are a lot of empty shops, playgroups for the kids etc. villages around grantham are lovely but expensive.
Any advice would be great.
Thx

I think Le Queen lives near there, maybe do a search for her or put a shout out on chat.

Hi Cbeebies13

I live in a village outside of Grantham but seem to spend most weekends in Grantham ferrying my DD1 around as she goes to school there.
Town centre has been like that for ever and can't see it improving but Stamford, Newark, and Lincoln are all nearby and excellent for shopping.

Villages towards Melton tend to be more expensive than if you go towards Boston on the A52.

Would avoid the Earlsfield est, but if you pm me with a list of streets will let you know what I know.

Can't help with junior schools, but secondary schools are on the whole good with 2 single sex grammar schools which are highly sought after.

Can ask my colleague's about junior schools for you as a lot of them live in Grantham.

It has good train connections to London and the North.

Hope this helps

I am another one who lives in a village outside of Grantham.

My dd is about to leave primary school - but she went to one in a village just outside Grantham as we moved during her school year and couldn't get her into the closest primary school.

I can let you know about some of the primary schools if you pm me the areas/schools you are thinking of.

We moved up about 18 months ago and spent ages visiting/driving around checking out all the areas. We intially rented in the Manthorpe area which has some good playgroups etc.

i do the commute in several days a week as do many others so if you need any info on that let me know.

I must say I have found it a really friendly area, never been called "love", "pet" etc so much.

Thanks for the advice. We were looking at a few houses a few minutes walk from the town centre. A village location would be ideal but property in the villages seems to be expensive and a bit out of our price range.

What are the good schools within the main town?

Thanks

Hi Cbeeebies13

I'm afraid I can't really say about primary schools but I haven't heard many bad words about any in particular. I think Gonerby Hill Foot School has a good rep as does the National and also Cliffdale but can't say for definite.

I too live in one of the villages near Grantham so can't really comment on schools in the town. Please pm me if you have any questions! Smile

Thanks everyone. It sounds like the villages around Grantham are more popular/preferred than the town itself. What villages have good facilities / schools?
Thanks

I used to live in Grantham.

I loved it there.

I haven't experienced them personally as we moved before DC's started school but I had friends that has DC's in a couple of the primary school and they were all pretty good.

I've thought about moving back a few times and have looked at a lot of the ofsted reports for both primary and secondary school and they all seem to be very good.

Definitely aviod Earlsfield estate and some of the surrounding roads.
